What kind of fuel pump was installed? If your truck had A/C, the pump will have had one feed line from the tank, one outlet to the carb, and a return line going back to the tank. Non A/C truck usually have a single feed/return line.

The return line is designed to circulate a little fuel back to the tank to help keep the pump cool. With the A/C on, underhood temps can get pretty hot. The other benefit of the return line is bleeding off fuel pressure when you shut off the truck. The heat from the engine can boil the fuel in the lines, causing pressure to go high enough to push the needle off the seat in the carb, causing it to slightly flood. This creates hot restart issues. Have the return line provides a way to relive the pressure.

If the pump has 2 outlets, make sure the second line isn’t capped off. I have seen lots of people do that, thinking the live doesn’t do anything. With the return line capped off, fuel pressure will be much higher than normal.

Based on his born on date and number of posts, I’d say check back in about 2026. He may come back then.
(Do people really get lost for that long?) I mean he came on like 100mph with a critical issue and some obvious frustration or worry in the tone of his post.
Then poof! He gone…

I almost said something about his lack of updates earlier. I figured he'd at least come back and answer some of our questions, if he was really interested in fixing the truck. But for all we know he's read the thread, fixed the truck and hasn't bothered to tell us all the while we keep throwing out ideas.

Ok I'll bookmark this thread and check back in 2026......

There is only one true “carb” and that’s a Q-Jet. Everything else is a waste of time and money.
I agree. I think the Q-jet is great, and certainly the best for our engines anyway. I only tagged Mike, because this thread has deteriorated I though it would be comical, especially after the LS swap comment.

Holly hog nose carbs rock............ I ought to know since I have screwed with so many...... HAHAHAHAHA !!! Gotta love those old fix or repair daily rattle traps.. I love the Qjets.. well all execpt the ones with mixture the plugs...I hate plugs
