Hello friend, I hope you are well. I am installing an alternator on my Chevrolet 350. In this case, I chose a 180 amp alternator. The original one is 78 amp. I changed it because I installed electric fans. Is it necessary to install the resistor and why? I have seen many publications but no one explains why. Has anyone been through this?

You don't need a resistor or dash light for an alternator that works like the original 10si or 12si in a square body. However, you need to check the documentation for your new alternator.
It's my understanding that an alternator built as a CS130 clone does need either a resistor or a dash warning light to get it to turn on and charge properly.

Welcome from Austria.

Exactly. Powermaster makes CS130 as one wire alternators, they don't need the resistor.
Lot's of info in that thread.
