I'm going to be replacing the AC stuff on the 85 C10. Does anyone else have the AC cover like this that covers the blower motor? I know that when I start to remove it it will fall apart. Maybe just replace with one that doesn't cover the blower motor.

Hmmm never seen that. It kind of looks like there's just a beauty cover over the whole box. So I think you'll be okay once you get under it. They usually don't fall apart, just make sure you get the bottom bolt on the passenger side out. It's a pain. I drilled a hole in my inner fender lol.

Same with the rest of the firewall.

I've never seen one of those before. At first I thought you meant the box that the evaporator fits into then I clicked it and saw the 'rubbery' looking cover over the entire thing.

does this truck have an original high end trim or possibly a diesel ? Diesel trucks had extra insulation bits and C10s were common diesels and higher end trucks also would have more

It's a hard plastic. This is the only one I've seen like this. The truck was originally a 6.2 diesel with AC.

They're not that fragile, just be careful. If you do manage to break it, JB weld and black paint are your best friends.
I bought one of these to fix the dash trim I broke. I could use it if I break it.

If I have too, I can remove the inner fender.

No it's an a/c delete box. You can tell by the position of the heater core inlet and outlet.
that.. is not what i asked lol. I meant did you urethane it to the firewall. or silicone, maybe something else?

I've never seen one of those before. Wonder if it's diesel specific?

Kind of what you asked. The box is probably finished with urethane, the firewall is rattle canned. There was some residual splatter of stuff on the firewall from factory.

I used 3m strip caulk, which is basically the same stuff the factory uses. Some kind of butyl rope, stays pliable and doesn't dry out.

ugh...
Is the butyl you mentioned really wide or did you double up? I can see you kneaded it in now but it just appears larger than i normally see butyl
