I have an all original 79 K10 so I want to keep the ac compressor original if it is possible to buy a replacement or is there anyone that rebuilds the existing units? Thanks for any help

does your compressor take up a lot of space front to back or is it a short little guy thats circular and maybe resembles a pancake

When retrofitting to r134a you will need to use Ester oil, PAG oil is a corrosive and will take out your evaporator. You will also need to replace the accumulator. Option 2 is using R12, hard to find and more expensive, the system was designed to run on R12. That’s what I’m running in mine.

Is there something wrong with the existing compressor? To answer your question, the only repair any shop I worked at would do on a compressor is replace the front seal or clutch. Usually, special tools are required. Anything beyond that didn't make economic sense. Service work on AC systems is spendy to do correctly, so keep that in mind.
