My AC compressor has been noisy lately but not too bad. Today it is very noisy so I cut it off so not to let it lock up. Had it installed by my AC tech in June 2017. He recommended reman A6, which was originally on it. Has been working great since then. Going to have it replaced again. Wanting to compare pricing for another A6 or possibly a Sanden. I have seen a lot of members saying they have them. Cost may be more for Sanden since I will probably need new mounting brackets and other items as necessary. Any opinions ?

Four Seasons builds a Sanden style compressor to replace the A6 (#58098). It bolts to the stock brackets. This is the route I'm going with my truck. about $320 on Amazon.

Are these better that the Reman GM A6?

They're new, not rebuilt. That's why I was going this route. Its also is about half the weight.

I thought that number looked familiar. I tried 2 of those from AZ before the GM Reman A6 and they both leaked oil. Not sure I want to try it again.

I didn't know Autozone sold the A6 Sanden clone. I've seen it advertised from other vendors as the Pro6Ten, and most folks seemed to think it works well. It is supposed to be a direct replacement.

Then maybe I'll have to go to a custom Sanden set up. I've had 2 others on a '68 El Camino and my '80 3+3.

They may be made better now but I'm not going to find out. They also don't sell as many of these as compared to other models. This particular one is for our older trucks. If you want to go with Sanden, find out the model that is popular with these trucks which is what I will do.

I assume you added the correct amount and type of A/C oil? A6 compressors are almost indestructible. A friend had one on his early 70s station wagon, the air worked but the compressor made all kinds of racket. He added a can of oil charge, it quieted down almost immediately.

I had my AC tech do the work. I'm not experienced on AC stuff. He has been working on auto's for several years and on mine for 3 years.
