I recently purchased a 1987 V10 with 68k original miles on it. It sat for a while as the original owner did not know the only problem was a fuel pump.

Just had all the fuel components including tanks replaced. All fluids have been changed. I have gone through 4 cans of throttle body cleaner in the TBI to get it all cleaned out.
When I start it up it idles fine down the drive way. When I hit the road and push the accelerator I get hesitation and a small amount of sputtering until it feels as though the back two barrels of the carb (if it had one) open up and it accelerates on up.
When the vehicle is hot it runs fine with no hesitation at all. I recently replaced the coil and Ignition Control Module, if that helps.
I have the vacuum hose diagram and have determined that all the hoses are connected properly. I have not closely inspected them for leaks but they look visually in good shape.

Any thoughts on what makes it sputter when leaving the house?

What do you have for a carb?
I don't really have much of an answer for you, as i dont have all that much experience working on these trucks, i work on a lot of marine motors.
One quadrajet i found had the smaller throttle plates stuck, while the 2 larger ones would open up fine. I never had it on an engine, but i'd assume the engine really wouldnt even run, but just saying... is everything free to move?

He doesn't have a carb bub. It's fuel injected.

I would run a bunch of injector cleaner through with the fuel and see if that doesn't help
