Hey guys. New member here from Savannah,Ga. I will post pics soon of my 82 Chevrolet long bed. Im interested in purchasing an 85 Scottsdale half ton 4x4. My question is when I ran the vin number, the truck came with the 305. He states it now has a 350,which is fine but he also stated you couldnt get a 350 option in a half ton truck in 1985. I call B.S.! Is this true? Thanks for your help. This site is awesome!

you could get a 350 in 85, 86 87 all of them so I see no reason it couldn't have had 350 factory.

Unless he personally changed it, it could be the stock 305 or another 305.

Never, never, never trust what a seller tells you about a motor. I just bought one that was suppose to be a 350 and I'm pretty sure it's a 305. I bought it cheap enough that it doesn't matter, but that's still beside the point.

I think the 350 might not have been available in a 2wd shortbed, but it sure was in a 4x4. A lot of people think that since it looks like a 350 and it's a truck, it must be a 350. Heck, a friend of mine once bought an '86 C10 that he thought was a 350, then I took him to go pick it up and I looked under the hood... it was a 4.3 V6.

Welcome Aboard Toby. So you've been confirmed about it being BS already. Just another 1 to say, yes it's BS. In the half tons, I do believe the 305 was Standard Equipment and 350 was optional.

The 305 was the most common engine though. Reason being, for GM to meet the newer stricter fleet mpg Fed requirements, GM had to use the 305. This is also why the tall 3.08 and 2.73 rear gear ratios were quite common.

IIRC the LE5 was the RPO code for the 305 and pushed by GM blah blah blah for best fuel economy in it's class blah blah blah. Loaded down with lots of TVS's and ESC ignition to get it there. So more 305's in half tons were sold than 350's otherwise the GM fleet wouldn't have met the Feds standards. Thank God technology has come a long way since those days.

Oh yeah, and don't forget the pics. The 2 mods are needing some practice with the Ban Hammer. Don't let it be you that gets to pop their cherry and get banned for not posting up pics. We require truck porn around here. :happy175:
