So the k10 I recently purchased had a bad transmission. It currently has the 700r4. From your experience is it better to have it rebuilt, or am I better off buying a reman from a company online?

Any help is greatly appreciated it.

Find a local, well reputed trans dude/shop and have them look at it.

And I agree with the gent above. I would 100% search out a local shop with a good rep. At least you may have some in person recourse if there are issues and returning a transmission online is not as easy as returning a defective toaster from Amazon to the local Kohls.

Especially for a 700R4, I would highly recommend a local builder that you have thoroughly vetted. A shop that you have actually talked to prior customers that have had a 700R4 rebuild and were satisfied would be a big plus. You also want to make sure they offer a good warranty on it and have been in business long enough to have confidence they will be around for you to take advantage of the warranty if you need it.

Any transmission shop worth a gallon of solvent should be very familiar with a 700. Dealing with a mail order remanufactured trans could be a major hassle. Dealing with a local shop would make things much smoother if adjustments are needed

Mine was rebuilt in 2016 by a local shop that does nothing but 700r4 and 4L60 rebuilds. They told me at the time that the 700r4 was so similar to the 4L60 ,and they are so common ;that they could afford to do just those 2 transmissions. It was $750 out the door. I guess what im saying is that they are so common you shouldnt have any trouble finding a good local shop. For all you know they may be one of the "online retailers" you are seeing anyway and that was the case with mine(Quality GM Transmission Rebuilders, Pinson AL). Anywho ive beat the snot of out mine and it does just fine behind a mild 350

As other Folks have said, have a reputable shop go threw yours. On 700r4 there is a difference between a 2wd and 4wd transmission case and it will be a roll of the dice on what case you get from a rebuild house.

Definitely a do a rebuild. A competent shop will probably install upgraded components as well. Then you will know what you have
