455 olds swap

My 79 gmc heavy half had the olds diesel from factory but in 1992 motor was swapped out for a olds 455.Has anyone else done that?

HotRodPC on here has always wanted to do it. I'll sure bet that thing is a torque monster!

Sounds like a good swap. Probably wasn't much to it. I think most of the 455's had about 500 foot lbs of torque.

I saw one just like that on an auction when I was in high school. It sold for more than I could afford unfortunately...

My father swapped an Olds 455 in place of a 350 diesel back in 1982 in his 80 c10. It was a monster! I have the truck now, and sold the 455 a few years back. The guy I sold the engine to is building it to put out about 450 HP, 600 TQ. He is putting it in an 85 c10.

It is a great swap! I have an 8.1 vortec to go back in my truck.

I never got to do it. Ended up selling my 425, and both 455's along with my Squarebody Olds mounts. I'd love that set up. I do still have the Variable Pitch stall Th400 trans for the project though. MrMarty has been going to put a Big Block Olds in a Square too. Mine was going to be a ChevrOldslet.

I have a 80 c10 that was a diesel to start with and was converted to a 350 olds. Was a pretty fun truck to drive, the old pre smog olds run pretty good. Transmission went out and it got parked

Bought a1980 chevy wagon one time with an olds diesel in it. Blew water out the tail pipe until it quit. Swapped in a 455 from a late 70's 98 or 88( been a long time).Bolted right in and the diesel exhaust bolted right up. Pulled my car trailer for the next couple of years. Put on several thousand miles around the SE states and always ran good. Sold the car when we moved back to Oregon

My C10 with the 455 would out pull my 2000 Chevy 1 ton with a 454.

I had a 73 C20 with a 455 in it. Used stock 5.7 diesel mounts and a Th400

FAK !!! I just really need to quit watching this thread. Makes me sick I got rid of all my Olds 425 and 455 motors. I do still have the variable pitch Th400 though. I can still run behind a Chevy motor.
