Installed a new timing chain and sprockets on a bbc motor.

Chain Has a minute amount of play.

I posted a photo with me pushing on the chain to show how tight it is.

Is it possible that it will loosen up after some run time?
The old chain and sprockets looked darn near new and had a fair amount of play.

It will break in. But that looks okay. That chain will stretch with use but hopefully not much.

I have heard of many people deliberately decreeing a camshaft a degree or 2 advanced to compensate for chain stretch. The theory is once the chain stretches, the cam timing is back to the desired setting.

When I built my first 455 Olds engine almost 30 years ago, I bought a set of the offset bushings to degree the cam. I have built built many Olds engines since then, and have yet to use the bushings. Every cam I have degreed, have always been within a degree or 2 of the specified setting. I always use Cloyes timing chains, I figure assuming the chain/camshaft/gears are machined accurately, the timing should be accurate

The higher end Cloyes and a few others come pre-stretched so they fit like they should.
Unless yours is incredibly tight, it'll be fine and should break in correctly. Way over tight will take out #1 main and the front cam bearing, but I've only seen that once.
