Hello Y’all. I’m new to this site and looking to learn from what y’all have to say. I have a 1983 GMC 3500 High Sierra . My grandpa bought it new for a pulling truck around the farm. It sat for 13 years after he died and I recently turned 20 and decided to get it running. It has only 160,000 actual miles. It has a factory 454, dual wheels, th400 trans, 4x4 with auto locking hubs, and factory a/c . To my best knowledge the 454 was only available on the 1 tons in 83. I was curious if anyone knew if this was a “rarer” combination? I will attach a picture of the truck right after I got it running Looking forward from hearing from y’all and learning a lot.

You could get a 454 in a 3/4 ton 2wd Suburban, as well as 3/4 ton 2wd pickups (both regular cab and crew cab) in 1983.

"Rarer" than what? Or - more specifically - what aspect of the combination are you thinking might be "rarer"?

There isn't a lot of dual wheel 4x4 trucks out there but i wouldn't call any square body truck "rare". There were over 15 million Chev & GMC trucks made between 1973 & 1987.

Welcome to GM Square body! Show us your truck we like pics.

Welcome to the site. @Keith Seymore since you worked for GM, do you know why GM did not offer the 454 in K20 trucks and Suburbans?
