1.4v at electric choke?

Pretty sure that isn't right, should be 12 right? Anyone know off the top of their head which wire under the hood side of the fuse box is the one for the choke? I will just rewire it!

As I understand it, looking at the fuse block/firewall through connector from the front, the blue wire in the bottom right corner.

The engine has to be running to close the oil pressure switch to deliver the source voltage (+12v) to the choke heater.

The engine has to be running to close the oil pressure switch to deliver the source voltage (+12v) to the choke heater.

if i unplug the wire from the choke i get 12.7 volts when the key is ON/Engine off, is it supposed to work like that too?

gonna go test it with the engine running

You should be getting 12 with key on/not running. You should be getting 0 when running or else the choke would stay shut all the time. Also, if this is aftermarket carb, you shouldn't be using the "choke wire" like how the factory was hooked. You need a different 12v source.

Also, it says that you may not get 12v that way.

Factory qjet. My understanding after watching some YouTube videos is the oil pressure switch will send power to the choke to open it as it heats up once the engine is running. It should by default spring shut. I have never seen mine move, but maybe it just hasn't been cold enough.

I still don't understand why I have 12v with the wire unhooked and very little voltage with it hooked up and engine off for both

It should be shut at startup in the morning. Cold to an engine is 100 degrees.

If I'm understanding this correctly, it sounds like the oil pressure switch has leaked/damaged internally, and is not passing/shunting voltage. That was one of the reasons for having the 'idiot light' (Choke or Oil/Choke) in the circuit.

Test this... put a 10 amp fuse inline with the choke power wire. If the fuse blows then either your choke is bad our the wire is shorting somewhere

Test this... put a 10 amp fuse inline with the choke power wire. If the fuse blows then either your choke is bad our the wire is shorting somewhere

Inline from the oil sending unit to the choke? Just want to make sure I understand.
