    Headliner from RockAuto?

Good timing on these last two posts - I finally started this project on my burb. I have on order a roll of the gray, foam-backed fabric from Amazon. I also have the rear section ABS headliner board (uncovered) on order from Rock Auto. The front section pressboard is in (I think) good enough...

    What is this switch called?

Thanks for all the input. I solved my problem. I actually had a regular, combo brake light/CC switch that I bought a few years ago before I realized there were two switches down there and it was the other one that was bad. I installed that extra switch in the location of the TCC/PCM switch...

    What is this switch called?

The one on the bottom of the pic is the regular brake switch. Normally open, triggers the brake lights and cruise cancel when closed, i.e. when pedal is pushed. This is what comes up when you search for a "brake light switch" on RockAuto or a parts store. The one on the top of the pic...

    Steering gear rebuild - FAIL

Yikes, I hope they weren't different sizes. If they are, it's definitely not obvious. I don't have a lot of miles on the rebuild yet, but steering is good for now and haven't noticed any ill-effects. Dang, I should have tried rebuilding! I was a little worried it was the reservoir itself...

Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

I've used Lucas Hot Rod and Classic Car oil in my '76 Vette (vortec heads on the original 350, but still flat tappet cam) for at least the last five years. No issues at all. Before that I was using Joe Gibbs, but it's a lot more expensive than the Lucas...

    Steering gear rebuild - FAIL

Hmmm, it took me a couple of tries to get the balls correct. I turned the worm too far once or twice and lost a few in the case - start over. If there's any doubt that you don't have all the balls in the worm or recirculating tube I'd probably want to take it all apart to be sure. I had no...

    Steering gear rebuild - FAIL

I think so. I haven't driven it much over the summer since I've been doing a pretty major update to the tune (upgraded to a later model PCM). Doesn't seem to be leaking at the box at least. But..... Now I'm leaking bad at the pump. I thought it was the pressure hose, but I replaced that...

    Headliner from RockAuto?

Thanks, I'll definitely see if I can find some with free shipping.

    Headliner from RockAuto?

That is really nice. Funny... we had some curtains of similar material we recently got rid of during a kitchen remodel. Color was similar to the maroon on my burb (my interior is gray though) - might of looked kind of nice in there, but they were also a bit faded.

    Headliner from RockAuto?

Did some more checking over the weekend. On the front section, backing might be salvageable, I really think it's just the fabric that has come loose from the backing. Back section is a different story. The backing has bowed down some six inches in spots. Not sure if it could be reformed back...

Need a switch to tell computer when in 4-low - any ideas?

It's pin F8 on a 7427 PCM. This is a diagram from '94 2500, 4L80e trans. This pin has a reference voltage on it and when it's grounded, the PCM knows it's in 4-low. '91-'93 4wd with 4L80e (like my '91) are a weird beast. There are three speed sensors: input on trans, output on trans, and...

    GMT800 2nd and 3rd row in 1988 Burb?

I had a GMT 400 (97) burb that I parted out. I had the same idea of trying to use the 2nd and 3rd row seats in my '91. No dice. It would have been a huge amount of fab to get them to work. On the 3rd row, the latches and hooks were in a totally different location.

    Headliner from RockAuto?

I might have to check that out. I was checking out the front section in the burb tonight - the backing might be salvageable, but the foam pad has deteriorated I think. In the cargo area I'm pretty sure it's the backing that's shot so I may have to end up replacing that. Probably just need to...

Need a switch to tell computer when in 4-low - any ideas?

It's all good - I'm pretty sure it's going to work out pretty well. I like the one you posted since I could order it on Amazon. (i.e. no signing up for yet another online account) I got it mounted today. Looks like it's going to work just fine, with hopefully good longevity. The arm is...

    Headliner from RockAuto?

Thanks for all the input. I think I'm going to do some more inspection on the backing to see how bad it is before I pull the trigger on this. Maybe I could get some material and reuse my fiberboard. Or the ABS idea as discussed in the thread.

    Headliner from RockAuto?

Today I discovered that RockAuto carries headliners for squares. Plastic instead of cardboard/fiberboard, similar to what LMC covers. The one I was looking at was uncovered - you could paint or cover as desired. I was thinking of just painting. I was all set to pull the trigger based on the...

Need a switch to tell computer when in 4-low - any ideas?

Yeah, I think so too. I actually ordered the one that @yevgenievich posted since I found it on Amazon, but it's the same idea - lever switch. Thanks. The one I ordered has two mounting holes through the body of the switch, so I think I'll try and mount it right to that plate. Agreed on no...

Need a switch to tell computer when in 4-low - any ideas?

Thanks, all, for the switch suggestions. I took the boot and indicator assembly off today to look at the gates for the shifter. The shifter is in 4-low in this position -- I'm thinking it should be pretty easy to mount a push button switch topside at the bottom of that gate that gets pushed...

Engine shut off while driving my '90 Suburban. Sup with that?

TBI era distributors are notorious for corrosion on the pickup coils. I was driving up a hill out of my neighborhood when it just quit like that. I got it restarted just enough to get it turned around pointing downhill. Then it quit again, wouldn’t restart, but I was able to coast all the way...

Need a switch to tell computer when in 4-low - any ideas?

Yep, that's it. I meant to put in my original post that yes, there is an indicator light for 4wd (works fine) but that it's the same switch (at least I think it is) for both 4wd modes, low and high. And 4-low is what the PCM needs to know since the gear ratio is different. If there were an...

Need a switch to tell computer when in 4-low - any ideas?

This has to do with my quest to upgrade from the first iteration of 4L80e PCMs (7060) to the next generation. (7427) Without going in to too much detail, the first gen used three speed sensors: trans input, trans output, and t-case. The PCM knew it was in 4-low if it saw a difference between...

    4L80e Swap Build Thread

Ended up keeping my original trans. I worked with the shop and had them install a TransGo shift kit and replace the force motor to the later style, that will allow me to use the later model ('7427) PCM. The weird thing is they found that the force motor was already the later style so I...

    1991 suburban project

Welcome fellow '91 Burb owner! 383 with vortec heads in mine, but the LS conversion was on my mind (and still is sometimes) when I was building my SBC.

Like new AR23 rims and other exterior dress up

Finally got around to taking the wheels off today and did this fix. 4 wraps of electrical tape at the base and they are nice and tight now. Haven't driven it yet to make sure the rattles are gone, but I don't see why they wouldn't be. Thanks for the advice.

    Steering gear rebuild - FAIL

Cool thanks. While I was doing this project I was thinking I couldn't mess with that adjustment since it would change steering geometry, but after thinking about it, you're right - won't change relationship between two wheels at all. I may still get an alignment, but might not need one right away.
