    In case you wondered...

My son is a mechanic and has a Pittsburgh click style torque wrench after it was found to be off by 300%. I'm not saying all are bad but he will never touch that one again.

    2002 Subaru Forester

Head gaskets on those are pretty easy though. If you catch it quick, you can loosen the head bolts and slide the old out and the new in, then just tighten up the bolts. You don't have to fully pull the heads unless you suspect warpage or other issues.

    Goliath 6x6

I honestly don't get it. Where are you going that you need 6 wheel drive that 4 wheel drive won't work? Do you need it for weight? You can buy a 2nd hand tractor that will handle the weight, do it longer, for way less than that would cost. I just don't get it.

Goofy Gas Gauge or Pesky Space Aliens!!

I was told to tell you it is a goofy gauge. I'm not allowed to tell you who told me. Those probes hurt.

How to pick the right jack+stands

Funny thing about jack stands. When I was towing I didn't get any formal training until I was almost a year in. During that training they were adamant that anytime you had a vehicle in the air, even if just to change a tire, you needed to have jack stands under it. I get the logic of it and...

Anybody else read the subject line and expect to find "...it would be a shame if something happened to it.".

RECOVERED AFTER STOLEN..HOW TO PREVENT THIS AGAIN

That's nice to see, but I would be surprised if there aren't any DAs that would jump all over a self defense shooting where someone dumped a mag. Not to mention the risk of collateral damage for every time you pull the trigger.

RECOVERED AFTER STOLEN..HOW TO PREVENT THIS AGAIN

Please be very careful with that advice. I know there was a time that was the advice given but it can get you into a world of trouble. Most of your top current trainers will tell you to shoot until the assailant stops being in a threat. There are many handguns with 15+ round capacity and if...

What's the tool you have owned the longest?

I'd have to say mine is my brain, and still in pristine condition as it is hardly ever used, though it does get the occasional alcohol cleansing to help keep the grime off it.

What new tools have you got lately?

About a year ago I bought CL special 60 Gallon air compressor. It is a consumer line model that is over 3 years old. It ran OK but the reed valve was shot and it would leak back through the pump. Two problems though: 1) parts are almost non existent and 2) we broke the manifold trying to...

    Well What A Day!

Not asking about why you can't own a gun, but the reason I suggest a visit to the gun shop is someone who does training will also understand the options for those that guns will not work for.

    Engine cooling fan

I don't know about the bearing wear patterns, but for the cost of a water pump why wouldn't you replace it while you were there?

    Well What A Day!

I don't think so. I don't think anybody is advocating vigilante or preemptive type actions. I'm only concerned with her safety and I have not advocated any specific course of action. If she believes she or her children are in danger then there are other steps she can take. I would suggest...

    Well What A Day!

I can go into more detail but the first question is always "Are you afraid for your personal safety?". If the answer is yes, understand that the police are there, but they are crime historians. They show up after something bad has happened. You don't want to be that something bad. Or, if you...

Sorry, I was just being a smart ass.

    Well What A Day!

I agree, which is why I did say it is a necessary first step. It just isn't the last step if you are truly concerned for your safety.

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

But where did you get it???
  22. S

    Well What A Day!

A protection order is a piece of paper. It is a necessary first step but it is only a piece of paper. If you have reason to fear for your safety, please consider additional forms of protection. A piece of paper never protected anyone.

    Just Left Shop Help Pls!!??

Your points are not invalid, but I was advocating a second vehicle and not a replacement.

    Just Left Shop Help Pls!!??

The gang here can definitely help you get that thing running well but I am concerned that you are using that as your only vehicle right now. Is this something you are going to learn how to work on yourself or do you need to find someone to do all the work for you? My thought, and I will...
