    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

I’m just drawing on my own experience, growing up around diesel tractors on a farm. I also made the mistake of buying a 2005 f250 with the 6.0 power stroke. That was a terrible decision that I have yet to live down. For me and my experience, a gas engine in a pickup makes more sense. Diesel for...

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

Gas gas gas. All day long. Easier, cheaper maintenance. Cheaper oil changes. Cheaper repairs. No anti gel additives in cold weather, no fuel filters, water separators, no glow plugs. And if you end up running out of gas, you just put more in and go. No bleeding lines, just gas and go. And...

Towing a diesel 2500 Burb on a 17’ flatbed trailer

I saw that @bucket mentioned it, but you could load the burb backwards. It would put the longer overhang over the tounge, the narrower axle between the fenders, and the heavy engine bay a little closer to the trailer axles. I know you stated that you already had a rented trailer lined up, but...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Yes, the rear quarter panel by the tail light would be the best location to put the ball mount. Like you said, it’s not ideal, but it’s the best location for that type of mount. And the 102” whip is the best antenna out there for cb, since that’s actually the ideal size for the wavelength that...

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

Lucky lol. I think I told you about mine, saw some before and after pictures on a random facebook page. He had lifted his truck and put aftermarket wheels on. I messaged him and he said he would sell them, that he had tried to scrap them but the place wouldn’t take them with tires on them. So...

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

Thank you. Took me a 6 month search and a 7 hour round trip to get them lol.

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

I don’t have any idea of the stock dimension. I did do the same thing you’re doing. My dad bought my truck new, and he added 36” tires through the years. As I was working on it and driving it more, I put 33” mud terrains on, then eventually returned to stock springs, 31” all season tires on 8”...

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

This. They’re not super knowledgeable if they can’t tell it has a lift. And, I believe the 4x4 rally wheels would be 15x8.

    Exhaust Question

I have true duals in my 78, and have had duals in a couple other trucks. At this stage in life, I would just replace the muffler and be done. I’ve primarily had flowmasters, but I would look at thrush, and magnaflow as well.

    Looking At A 2005 Z71 4x4

I had an 04 briefly that gave me ac troubles. I eventually did what you did, cut the belt and move on. But I only had that truck for about 6 months. The 01 we have, and my 06 never gave any ac troubles. I only had my 02 for about 6 weeks before it was totaled, so I don’t count it.

    Plastic thread repair

Well, I stopped by the hardware store today and they didn’t have anything that would work. The closest thing I could find is a threaded pipe nipple. But, this specific piece is not a standard plumbing size, it’s something proprietary that falls in between standard sizes. Back to the drawing...

    Looking At A 2005 Z71 4x4

everyone has pretty much covered everything, but I’ll add my 2 cents. We have a farm truck, 2001 Silverado bought new. 315,000 miles and it just blew a head gasket, otherwise everything is all original. Even the transmission. Slightly older truck, but the same generation. I personally bought a...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

I don’t understand the tinted windshield thing. I can barely see at night as is lol. But to each their own.

    1977 factory installed roof antenna,

So what you’re saying is, they didn’t work all that well lol. That’s a horrible design for a transmitter antenna.

    1977 factory installed roof antenna,

But what antenna did they use?

    Old Bedliners

I’ve had both plastic and spray in. I prefer the plastic style, and actually was able to find a used on for my truck on Facebook. In my experience, they don’t cause nearly as much rust and damage as the spray in guys want you to believe. It’s all marketing. However, I would do under the rail, as...

    1977 factory installed roof antenna,

I’m going to say that’s an NMO antenna mount, for a cb or public safety antenna. I don’t think GM ever did a factory roof antenna. The NMO can be installed from the top down, snaking the cable between the roof panels, so there wouldn’t be a need for a hole under the headliner. You can either...

    Plastic thread repair

I do have a tap and die set, but nothing big enough to fit this. I woke up a little early this morning, and had time to lay in bed and ponder. I came up with an idea, maybe see if I can find a piece of hollow thread. Maybe that’s called conduit, I’m not sure lol. But find a piece that threads...

    Plastic thread repair

I like those suggestions. I could probably match it with a trip to the hardware store. It’s not of any real value, just something I’d like to correct so that it’s useful. I keep it under the back seat of my truck, cause you never know.

    Plastic thread repair

The smaller end threads into the larger piece, and the smaller threads are worn. ID of the outer piece is 7/8’s of an inch as best I can tell, I only have a tape measure. No caliper on hand. Edit: now that I look at it, it resembles a plastic pipe plug. Now I’m wondering if there’s a way to...

    Plastic thread repair

I have an old folding shovel, it may be army issued or it may be a cheap imitation, I’m not sure. I’ve had it forever. Anyway, the handle comes apart and has a saw blade that is supposed to screw into the handle to cut roots. But the threads are boogered and, while it screws in, they don’t catch...

    Power tool storage

Here are a few quick pictures after almost a month lol. All my big stuff is in the bottom, sawzall, circular saw, and stuff I don’t use much. Middle box holds my work lights, and laser tape measure. The top box has my drills and impact drivers, as I use those the most. And then the screw...

    8 lug slots...?

I’m still mad that they discontinued the 058. I had 2 different sets over the years, both 16x8 6 lug. I should have kept them.

    Trailer wiring

I agree with this. Has to be something that they did wrong when they put it in. If they can’t find a schematic, then I’m surprised it works at all.

    Trailer wiring

@bucket are all 4 trucks having the same issue? If so, I would think that would rule out defective parts. It almost has to be something that the installer wired incorrectly. I have used that same model controller in my last couple of trucks, and have one in my Titan now. Could it be a problem on...
