    Fuel gauge troubleshooting

I’ve never heard of an output test either, but in the spirit of checking everything I tested it and would’ve expected 12V in, 12V out. I checked the terminal on the plug that plugs into the switch and it’s getting the same 8.5V I measured at the prong on the gauge going to the sending unit. I’m...

    Fuel gauge troubleshooting

1973 C20 with factory dual tanks. The truck has been in my family since ‘84 and most everything is factory or stock. The wiring is not modified or hacked up. The fuel gauge worked fine for both tanks until one day the needle started pointing to the 3 o’ clock position for both tanks. I am aware...

What is this? Asking for a friend

Not sure what transmission he had, but I’ll bet you’re right, it’s probably for cruise control and possibly lock up torque converter

What is this? Asking for a friend

Orange for the power feed into the switch and white for the switched power to active the brakes lights

What is this? Asking for a friend

I don’t think the truck did. It’s a ‘78 and as far as I know cruise came out in the 81+ years, correct me if I’m wrong. But the column was out of an ‘86 and may have been in a truck with cruise.

What is this? Asking for a friend

My buddy has a ‘78 that’s been Frankensteined by POs. Hes doing a steering column swap and asked me what this is. My guess is a brake light switch, but wires are wrong color. Any ideas?

New engine installed - need TBI timing/idle help

This is on my ‘88 K5 with a 350. Everything is 100% stock and unmodified. The brown wire is near the bulkhead connector. Hope this helps.

    LED conversion

Headlights and turn signals are on separate circuits, I don’t see how adding headlights would affect turn signals. You only had problems with the turn signals after installing LED head lights? I still use sealed beam halogen headlights, but I had issues with the LED side marker/turn light when...

Where can I buy the warning light lens like fasten seat belt choke lens and 4x4 lights lens

I know I haven’t seen it all and that’s the first low coolant one I’ve ever seen. Any idea what year or application it’s for?

Where can I buy the warning light lens like fasten seat belt choke lens and 4x4 lights lens

I have a ‘73, ‘80, ‘88, and at one time had an ‘84. I’ve never seen a square with a low coolant warning light or a provision for a coolant level sensors. They’re called tell tale lights and generally they are brake, fasten seatbelt, four wheel drive, and choke. Later, on TBI engines, choke was...

    gear ratio

Those codes don’t tell you the gear ratio. Your best bet is to remove the differential cover and count the teeth on the ring and pinion gears.

Dash blinker lights glow when the marker lights are on.

I fought the LED fight with my ‘80 K25 three and half years ago using LED bulbs from Amazon. Not for style, but just to have better, brighter exterior lighting. The front turn/park LED lights worked fine, but the side turn / marker lights only blinked with parking lights off. I messed around...

Which posi unit do you like?

Just some opinion here based on my own meandering experience. My ‘80 K25 has a Detroit locker in the rear and a TruTrac upfront. My ‘73 C20 has the factory locking diff (RPO G86, it’s not a G80 locker), which is a clutch pack style limited slip. My ‘80 K25 is my work horse and off road truck so...

    Recognize this?

I have the same part from my ‘80 K25, but in better condition. I don’t remember where it came from or what it does. It’s been in my spare / unknown parts pile for a long time. Didn’t want to throw it away in case I need it someday. Would be great if someone could shine some light on this.

Has anyone used an Edelbrock Rochester Quadrajet carburetor?

I had one of those on my ‘84 K5 many, many moons ago when I lived in California and had to be emission compliant. The carb ran fine, but overall the engine ran like crap because it was a California smog dog.

6.2 Diesel Instrument Gauge Cluster Swap??

Because of changes between 73-80 and 81-87 I was mistaken about the orange wire in my first reply. There is no 1982 wiring diagram in the reference library here, 1983 is the the closest match. The pics below are the base cluster and cluster with gauges and no tach with the pinout. Go to the...

6.2 Diesel Instrument Gauge Cluster Swap??

You may need to repin the connector since the two clusters use different printed circuits. I’ve never messed with a 6.2 diesel truck, but I have swapped out idiot lights for gauges with tach on my ‘80 gasser. You need to consult a wiring diagram from the reference section to be sure about what...

    Cab leaking

My ‘80 K25 has the same problem, drips over the fuse block. One of the fuse block bolts has some surface rust from it. I was thinking of caulking it until the day I remove the cab for restoration bc I have a few holes in the floor in the usual places too.

    Rim compatibility

I still run 9.50 x 16.5 on my ‘73 C20. Had to get them online and shipped to my house. Even though I found them there wasn’t much variety. Probably going to switch to 16” when these wear out. I asked the tire guy at my local Walmart if they could get them. When I told him the size, “nine fifty...

Wiring for oil pressure switch sending unit and coolant wiring help

I saw your post about it in the other thread and I agree with what @Jgonick said. It’s probably wire #350 that goes to the oil pressure switch. If you have gauges, you have an oil pressure sender that goes to your oil pressure gauge via the #31 tan wire. If you have idiot lights then you...

Wiring for oil pressure switch sending unit and coolant wiring help

The temp sender wire, #35 on the wiring diagram, should be a small, 18 or 20 AWG green wire routed from the sender, either towards the front of intake manifold or driver side head, along the valve cover to firewall and the bulkhead connector. The oil pressure sender wire, #31 on the wiring...

Wiring for oil pressure switch sending unit and coolant wiring help

What year truck? Earlier squares had mechanical oil gauges. Do you have gauges or idiot lights? You said temp sender, which is for a gauge, but then you said pressure switch, which is an on/off switch for idiot lights. Not trying to be a butt, but need these details to help you out.

    1980 K20 Rear Diff fuild

I run 80-90 in my ‘80 K25 14BFF when it had an open diff and after installing a Detroit locker. I live in Wyoming and temps easily get to -30°F I in winter and haven’t had issues. Works fine.

    Correct source for ac vacuum

It will work and that’s what really matters. If you want it less cluttered and done ‘properly’ how the factory had it then get a two port manifold fitting for AC and trans and move the brake booster source to the carb and plug off the carb port that is not used for vacuum advance.
