Conquered Initial Problem, Followed by New One

Only other thing I’ve done is an oil change. I wondered if I added enough oil for it to deep into spark plug wells, but didn’t see any. Plugs seemed fine too. It only started shortly after oil change. I know it needs a head gasket job.

Could that still be the case if it hadn’t been doing it before, and does sound normal at times?

Conquered Initial Problem, Followed by New One

A lot of you guys helped me out with an overheating problem originating from a bad water pump seal and I thank those of who you helped me out. I now have a new problem. My truck will at times, seemingly random, misfire. The carb misfires when it’s cold and I get on it - but this thing is...

Hadn’t thought of it that way, you have a good point. May have gotten halfway through replacing it and got rid of the truck forgetting about it.

Another somewhat unrelated question. What’s the best way to clean up the engine bay if I’m not sure if there’s any open electrical connections or hoses.

PCV valve? Can you elaborate on that some?

What weight oil? Will the 350 take synthetic if they make it for the correct weight?

Oil change is for sure going to happen! So it should only take 5 qts?

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

I appreciate the guidance! I’ll do all of that. I did check engine oil cold again today. It hit “Add 1 qt” mark so I’ll do that. The dipstick was on the right side next to the second cylinder from the front (I believe it would be number 4 cylinder). Back to the P/S pump. The sound is gone now...

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

Alright, got a new issue. After putting everything back together and tight I went for a drive. No squealing, no noise, no leaks. Biggest thing I noticed is that every now and then, the power steering will go out. Is this a belt issue, or the pump itself?

Well there's another missing bolt - was only two on P/S when I pulled it off.. dude who had this truck before me really didn't care about it. I'm learning that with every minute under the hood.

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

I'm back! Forgive my absence, been on the road! So, water pump is installed, coolant leak is completely gone (couple drips under the truck, assuming from residual coolant on the frame). Yes, I did check the wrong dipstick! Rookie move, I know. But the oil dipstick was also not where it was...

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

Used green coolant and didn't see green in the oil. Also, no milkiness whatsoever in the oil but I didn't check the cap. Picked up new water pump w/ gaskets and new bolts. Will update when I'm done installing water pump.

Update: checked oil, it’s red and kinda watery.

Desperately Need Help! Extreme coolant leak!

Well, I tightened up the water pump. Put a gallon of coolant in. Made it about 2 miles before it started to smoke and lost power. Turned around, truck shut off. I think the water pump may be entirely missing at least one bolt, but I’m not sure. What else could cause it to overheat so quickly?

Very true! I'm lucky to experience this twice! First time around was Harleys..

Right on! Thank you for your help! I'll update after I tighten those bolts and add coolant

Okay so tighten bolts on water pump, and check freeze plug since its gurgling. So far not nearly as catastrophic as I feared!

It was like that when I purchased it two days ago - I hadn't even thought twice about it sticking out like that

Another note - if I'm able to hear "gurgling" from that hole where the freeze plug goes - is that a sign that it is bad?

Okay they're posted, however I'm not sure how helpful they'll be. You can sort of see where it's still wet.
