Looking to buy our first 6.2

Another thing to look for is the starter brace. If it is missing, the torque from the starter can break the engine block where the starter bolts go. Need to have that brace.

Looking to buy our first 6.2

You are correct about the harmonic balancer. Whatever one you end up getting, changing the harmonic balancer would be one of the first things to do. Almost all the blocks develop cracks in the main webbing. I’ve seen many engines run way over 200,000 that are cracked. I think what usually...

    1968 327 in a 75 stepside

You should sell me that pickup and find one with AC since you are in TX. ;) No seriously, that is a great looking pickup and definitely worth getting on the road again. Will be interesting to hear what you find out about the coolant leak. Maybe just warped heads? Also, what is the clutch...

New For Me 1985 Silverado 20 6.2 Diesel

I have a 1990 K2500 with a 6.2 diesel. It originally had a TH400 with 4.11 gears. She was screaming to go 65 mph. I swapped a 700R4 in it and that was a dramatic improvement for highway driving. I think 3.73’s would be ideal instead of the 4.11’s. I’d like to find a Banks turbo for it...

    1991 Chevy V3500 Cummins

Considering you are pushing a lifted pickup with the aerodynamics of a brick and running on 37’s, 11 mpg seems about what you probably can expect. If it were a warmed up gas big block, you’d probably be getting 8 mpg. Laws of physics are hard to overcome.

    1977 P30 hydroboost questions

Here is a picture of the master cylinder and hydroboost from underneath. Not the best picture, but best I could do laying on my back under there. This shows the leaking fluid I am seeing. I’m assuming it’s brake fluid, but not completely sure.

    1977 P30 hydroboost questions

The brakes on my motorhome have gotten quite sketchy so I decided to look into it since it is in the shop and it is too cold to do much of anything outside. I opened up the master cylinder and found that the rear section for the rear brakes is basically empty. I went looking for the leak and...

    1977 C10 Rear speakers??

That top one on the right side is what I would have ordered back in the day. I didn’t realize they had a factory CB option. That’s sweet.

    1977 C10 Rear speakers??

@Ricko1966 is trying to help you understand the terminology also. You are referring to your radio as a “stereo.” A lot of older AM radios and even some AM/FM radios were “mono” radios, meaning they only had an output for one speaker (or maybe 2 if there was a single front and a single rear)...

I know that my Dad’s ‘77 Custom Deluxe C10 has a factory non-folding bench seat. I would assume the folding seats were an option.

    Nice squarebody on BaT

Do you suppose in the early '80s when they were doing everything they could to increase fuel economy, they used the 16 gallon vs 20 gallon tanks to help cut weight? Just a thought since they also did things like lighten up the glass and the sheet metal too starting in '81.

Opinions on best newish Suburban or Tahoe

I had an '02 Tahoe and an '05 Suburban. Both were dead nuts reliable. I agree with Mason about staying away from the DOD stuff. We test drove a '10 Suburban years back and I didn't like the interior as well as the GMT 800 'burbs either. I have no experience with anything newer than that.

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Looks like a good foundation to start with. I would love to find a round eye 4x4 burb with a 4 speed someday. Very cool! Get all the mechanical stuff straightened out so it is reliable to drive. Then you can enjoy driving it as you work on the cosmetic stuff.

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

I would say track down some 15x8 stock rally wheels, put 31x10.50's on them, and slap them on the pickup and see what you think. If it looks too high, you can always get different springs and drop it back to stock height. I have 31x10.50 15's on rally wheels on my suburban that has the stock...

    250i6 mods for Highway Driving

Up in this part of the world, if a C10 came with a SM465 4 speed and a 6 cylinder, it usually had 3.73's. That being said, check your SPID label if it is still there. If it had a 3 speed manual or automatic, then they often had higher gears like 3.08 or 3.42. My dad has a '76 C10 with the...

@JamesSam Look for Walbro pumps. I believe this is the TBI replacement model. Very high quality American pumps. https://walbrofuelpumps.com/walbro-5ca401-fuel-pump-kit-oe-replacement.html?srsltid=AfmBOooxB6GBVxu7fGNiO7lAJ8oijTU4C0sQRCff3L4NMOBDTswLhxQ0
