    Fuel gauge wiring help?

Thats normal. The pic below is out of the wiring diagram for 1980, but the gauge cluster wiring didn't change much '76 - '86. Circuit 30 Pink is for the fuel gauge. As you already mentioned, the fuel gauge circuit has two pins on the cluster pigtail, 7 and 18. The pin at slot 18 (bottom left in...

Use "Choke" light as MIL/CEL in LS swap?

@BrandonHall10 Nice looking truck. If all you want to do is have the CHOKE light illuminated by something else just splice the wire on the cluster pigtail to whatever wire you want to illuminate it. Looking on the wiring diagrams for my '80, circuit 931 is for the electric choke light. Just...

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

@7900_Blazer I have to ask, why do you want to do this in the first place? I have some experience with factory gauges and rewiring and whatnot and it seems like a pain in the butt. Also, it would make it more difficult to pull the cluster out in the future having each gauge wired directly...

    Firewall Bulkhead Connector, New $60

I have new bulkhead connectors for sale. I checked wiring diagrams and it appears to be used in squares from 1975 to 1986. The part numbers are 8917232, 8917253, 8917233, 8917234. I needed a new firewall bulkhead connector and I was unable to locate one anywhere. Wire harness makers include...

    Dual gas tank switch

I second everything @75gmck25 said. I had the same kind of fuel tank switchover valve in my ‘80 K25. My grandfather put it in when he installed a second fuel tank on the driver side in the late 80’s. The switch was wearing out and I’d smell gas when I switched over and the last few times I...

    Relays, Relays, Relays

@Raider L That’s nice. Unfortunately, it won’t work for me. My ‘80 K25 has no relays, except the horn of course, and I plan to keep it mostly old school. In the future I might put my headlights on relays, but that’s not in my plans at the moments.

    Fusible Links vs Maxi Fuse

@Raider L That looks like some nice work there. I have a remote start solenoid on the firewall. Comes in very handy at times. In the picture here, which was taken before I decided to redo the wiring, I was using the stud on the solenoid as a primary power junction, but now I’ve added a junction...

    Bulkhead Connectors

I’m having trouble finding a complete, new (not used) bulkhead connectors. I’ve read in some other threads here that the wiring harness companies refuse to sell just the bulk head connectors. I have located three of the four pieces to the connector in bulk quantities, but I am unable to locate...

    Connectors

I’m in the process of rewiring my ‘80 K25. I’m looking to re pin a lot of the connectors with fresh wire, but I don’t know where to look for part numbers for the blades and pins that crimp to the wires inside the plastic connectors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Newbie seatbelt question

I replaced the original 41 year old seat belts in my ‘80 K25 with new ones from LMC and they work great. They lock up easier than the stock belts. They also feel great. The original belts were stiff, like an overly starched shirt. The new material is soft and pliable. Feels like seatbelts in a...

    Fuel supply issue

I‘ve heard some old school mechanics say that with the E10 fuel we have these days fuel evaporating out of carbs is quite common when they sit for a few days.

    Fusible Links vs Maxi Fuse

Sounds like you have it all figured out. My square is just a base model, no A/C, no power windows, no power locks, etc. so I don’t have any high current circuits other than the starter itself and the charging system. I was planning on using another inline maxi coming off the alternator and...

    Fusible Links vs Maxi Fuse

This is to replace fusible links for the primary power coming off the starter. This is to protect the whole electrical system and keep the truck from burning down if there is a major short to ground somewhere under the hood.

    Fusible Links vs Maxi Fuse

Stock 63 amp alternator. Fusing 10% over 63 amps is 69 amps. I figure if you can remove the battery from the vehicle after its started and the alternator can supply enough juice to keep the vehicle running it would be safe to fuse it for the alternator’s rating.

    Fusible Links vs Maxi Fuse

I'm looking for some opinions from people with wiring experience. I'm redoing most of the wiring on my square. It's an '80 K25 454. I decided to forego buying a pre-made wiring harness and do it wire by wire. I plan to keep the wiring pretty close to stock, with a few minor deviations. On the...

    1978 C10 front marker lights

I have a similar issue with my ‘80 K25. Replaced everything with LED bulbs. Did you install load equalizing resistors?

Legality of rolling back an odometer

Coming to the conversion late, but here's my two cents. The issues involves state and federal law. Your profile says you're in NM and I am not familiar with NM law whatsoever. However, I am familiar a little with California (where I used to live).and Wyoming (where I live now) laws. Neither...

    Battery kill switch

Depends what you're looking to do. You didn't specify in your original post whether it was to prevent battery drain or anti-theft. If its just battery drain you're looking to protect against look around for a low voltage disconnect system. It will disconnect the battery when the voltage drops...

    "Hypothetical" Question (Wink Wink)

I’m a lot less knowledgeable than some of the other commenters on here, but I know enough that I would never swap out anything for a 700R4. I had an ‘84 K5 years ago and was not happy with the 700R4. On the other hand I currently have a ‘73 C20 with a 350 engine and TH350 and it does great. The...

    6.2 Question

6.2L diesels are naturally aspirated, no turbo. They have very good fuel economy (20 - 24 mpg), but they are slow and stinky. Some time ago, comparing numbers, I read that a stock 350 makes more hp and torque than a 6.2L diesel. They are NOT like the Cummins or Power Strokes that make a lot of...

1980 Square hard clunk shifting into reverse VIDEO

Couldn't get the media to play. Without knowing anything else, it could be that the yoke is wore out beyond spec. My '73 C20 had that issue, but when dropping into any gear, not just reverse. Stuck some shims between the U-joint cap and yoke. Problem solved.

Opinions on an Engine Swap for 81 C10

Why not just buy a reman long block? I'm in Wyoming, but there is an engine rebuilding company here that will sell you a four bolt main 350 short block for $1050 or a long block for $1500.

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

The SM465 does seem like over kill for a 2wd half ton. GM also has some three speed manuals. I've never driven one. Maybe they'd be more streetable than a 465? I built my K25 to be my work horse. Pulling, hauling, off-road so I love having that bullet proof 465 in it. To be fair, one minor...

T-5 or T-56 Manual Trans swap

I don't know much about these rock crushers, except they are geared high because they are meant for cars, not trucks. You'd have to ask around or google it. I'm sorry I can't be of much help there. Just curious, what did you mean in your previous post about being more streetable than a SM465...

    Starter wiring options

Going off the wiring diagram I don't see a black wire coming off the starter to as primary power along the firewall. The 32 BLK is a 2 AWG black wire coming off the positive battery terminal going to the starter. Then you have two red wires coming off that same starter post. 1 RED-2 is a 16 AWG...
