    In many cases it didn't go anywhere. I believe it was for adding additional accessories if desired.

    Does it seem to be binding in the bearing or does it seem to come to a dead stop like it hit somthing? If its not the bearing fitment then perhaps you need to try to get the end of the axle tonrais up and align with the carrier. Give it a little turn and it should go in.

    Whenever I could get to the other side of the bolt I would wire brush the rust off of the exposed threads and then spray it with penatrant. Then work the bolt back and forth with my impact while adding more penatrant from the top. Rarely did I need heat but heat always helps.

    Holley 600 tune/vacuum

    On a stock configuration you will have one line on the balancer. Try to clean the saw tooth tab off and you will See the marks on it somthing like the image below. Set it around 10 to start with and place your vacuum advance on manifold vacuum. You will need to go back over the air fuel ratios then.

    Agreed. I believe they set it to eight. If I'm not mistaken having the vacuum advance on ported will add advance when accelerating thus contributing to the problem. If you connect to manifold vacuum it will drop the advance out when the throttle is opened and should reduce the pre-ignition...

    I see. It seems to me that adding an extender and plugging the connector in is equal to finding a power source and running the wire. Unless the factory wiring is not there. Or could you just install a jumper in switch connector.

    Has there been any work done to the truck recently? that may give you a place to start looking. Otherwise start by checking all the sockets and tracing wiring looking for damage or a short to ground. Here is a simple scematic to look at.
