    exhaust

Exhaust is like pizza preference. Everyone has an opinion and only a small few are terrible lol. The previous owner of my Suburban had it set up like this: Factory manifolds and cheap turbo mufflers being fed by 2.25" dual straight pipe. No crossover or x pipe and they exit just behind the...

    1979 Trans Am - 25 years in a garage

Yup, we've been skimming the same pages lol. I decided a while back after seeing how much it is to build a strong, reliable, fast Olds motor that I just wanted stock reliability, a lumpy cam, long tubes, and some dual chamber mufflers to top it all off.

    Camshaft Install/Rocker Adjustment How-To?

The STP additive is super thick. Like pouring molasses. I hope it isnt too bad getting it all out.

    1979 Trans Am - 25 years in a garage

Thanks, I'm excited to get it started. I'll make sure to take a video. The pushrods feel just as tight as they did with the stock cam. This cam isnt a high lift so stock springs should be ok as well as pushrods and rockers. Nothing wrong at all with Fel-Pro. I just meant that someone has been...

Even a log road would make me happy

GMT400 seats are super comfy if they arent torn up. Dont know what they would take to get installed in a square body though.

    Camshaft Install/Rocker Adjustment How-To?

Dont know if you are aware or not but another note on flat tappet cams is that they require a break in period of 20-30 mins running at 2000-2200 rpm. You will also need either a special cam break in oil or a zinc (zddp) additive in the fresh oil you are putting in. Older CI-4 spec diesel oil has...

    1979 Trans Am - 25 years in a garage

It is, but the stock olds cam is like 190/200 so its nice bump compared to stock. I didnt want to get too wild because then I'd want to get aluminum heads, raise the compression a bit, etc.

    1979 Trans Am - 25 years in a garage

Well I took the time over the Independence Day extended weekend to tackle the engine. First step was pressure washing the gunk off it. I have to say it looked pretty good after the pressure wash. I was tempted to leave it unpainted. After the wash the teardown started and I only found 2 things...

    1988 IROC-Z

Nice! I know my old Hemi used to be able to run 87 but recommended 89 for "peak" performance. Maybe its time you treat yourself and get a new one while Helen and the K5 get what they need.

If I didnt drive so much daily I would be all over a used one but its just not practical. Do they run on higher octane? Keep up the good work with Helen. We all know the best ones are a little bit of a headache.

    LED headlights

Welcome aboard. I always recommend a relay harness as your first lighting upgrade. It will pull current from the battery instead of through the switch. That eliminates voltage drops which will give your LEDs a longer life span since they are more sensitive to voltage fluctuation. As for the...

    Original speaker options/location

As mentioned the front came with either a pair of 3" speakers or a 4x10 in the center. If you have a pair of speakers up front check out this post. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/the-grocery-getter.19698/#post-363785 I got a set of cheapy 3.5" speakers and mounted them to the factory...

    1965 Buick Skylark

AMC/Jeep called it the Dauntless. Pretty popular engine and I can see why, they are pretty fun to drive. Its got barely any power but it has a fair amount of torque. That sounds like a fun Jeep. I'm going to be good to my wallet and not buy any performance parts for this engine. Only whatever...

Thats an interesting story. I bet a lot people booked that day for weddings and events. Pretty confident move booking the date before any engagement lol. Thanks for the well wishes, we've been together a long time and I dont see that changing. Shes my best friend and I think we have a good...

Congrats to you as well, may you guys have long happy lives together. Our date was 7/7. We kept a few extra Save The Date invites which were magnets made to look like license plates. We have one in the burb and now one in the Skylark. The car is REALLY solid. Tiny rust holes on the pass side...

    1965 Buick Skylark

I'm pretty excited about this one since its not a swap project (yet) or engine rebuild. I can tinker with it and drive it for some instant gratification. I have a set of floor mats and buick logo key chain coming. Going to replace the glove box liner since its cardboard was no match for the...

    1965 Buick Skylark

So far, I've replaced the burnt out speedometer bulbs with leds I had laying around and added a Bosch tach. The plans for this one are to go ground up on the resto. Starting with wheels and tires to accomodate the 4th gen f body disc brake system. Then new bushings, lowering springs...

    1965 Buick Skylark

So heres some back story as to why I bought yet another vehicle: I got married in July of 2017 and had purchased a 1964 Skylark to fix up and drive to ceremony since the venue was just a few miles from my house. Things got tight financially with the wedding as time drew closer and I decided to...

    Picture heavy. G10 nomad van

Sweeeeet van, maaaaan. Definitely looks like a good score. New cars are ridiculously over priced. I cant wait to finish paying off my trucks. I bought it used in 2016 and have about 2 more years left. I priced out a new one with the 1000 ft lb engine and similarly equipped to mine and it was...
