    Electrical Issue in Wife's Car

Have seen many with a bad ground at the frame/body from the battery. Especially after using the blower fan/headlights and other heavy electrical loads. If you have a temp gun, run it over the ground cables after the lights come on. Any heat means resistance and you want none.

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

Rarely, like never, is a fuel gauge problem in the gauge. Virtually always the tank sender or occasionally a bad wire or ground.

    Pull 6.2 and 700r4 as a unit?

Remove the hood and drop the rear transmission mount and the engine/transmission will easily come out. Even with the transfer case on it. No need to pull the radiator support. The 6.2/6.5 are roughly the same as a big block. Done it many times.

I'm jealous of you guys that have these trucks that are not rusted out from the door handles down! Snow and salt is our downfall here and ruins our vehicles.

    350 Running warm

Those gauges are far from accurate. Remove the sender and screw in a quality bourdon bulb temp gauge. Stick it ahead of the windshield so you can see it and take it for a drive. I always run 195 degree thermostats and my temp gauge runs higher than yours.

Do I rebuild my SBC or swap for an LS3?

I had a busted ring land on #5 cylinder and a cold start knock. I rebuilt the 350 in the 90 Suburban 4x2. That was work in itself. An LS swap means you change everything. You can add a lot of $ to the costs. LS = more work and more $ but better driveability. 350 = Quicker, cheaper and easier...

Wiring Fuel Gage Dual Tank EFI

I made this for my 82 6.2 diesel. This way I knew what was in each tank at all times. I had to look at the tank selector switch to see what tank I was burning off from. This worked great. I done the wiring schematic myself and was sure before I did this mod. I had to run a single wire for the...

Siphoning gas out of a bad tank

Here is the dual gauge I built. It only required one additional wire from the tank switch for the second gauge. It worked great and it showed what was in each tank, all the time, no matter what tank I was burning off. The lettering came from model railroad.

    LMC Headliner question

I see you are in Texas. The heat there has to be a killer. You must use the high heat headliner glue. It is a much better grade of contact cement. Don't be cheap here. Buy it from a reputable parts store or demand it be used in your install.

    erratic fuel gauge

I put in a new sender in a 90 Suburban with the 42 gallon tank. I specifically bought it for the 42 gallon but bought aftermarket. My mistake? Cheap ChiCom junk never has worked right since. When empty, will take only about 20 gallons. I has been verified as a 42 gal. Don't be cheap as it will...

    LMC Headliner question

I just did a 90 Suburban using the old cardboard backer. Remove it from the vehicle. I peeled the old cover off and used a hand wire brush to scratch off the old foam to get down to the cardboard. The cardboard needs to be dust free. Then find headliner glue, which is a super contact cement that...

Has anybody removed ethanol from their gas ?

Use LL100 AV gas. It's ethanol/methanol free. Or better yet, change over to propane. Propane almost lasts forever and causes no carb issues. Turn on the tank and fire it up.

Siphoning gas out of a bad tank

Yes, but mine showed the fuel level on both tanks at the same time. Left gauge showed left tank and right gauge showed the right tank. I had to look down at the switch to determine which tank I was burning off of. I will try and get a photo.

    Battery posts corrosion wtf

I have an 82 6.2 diesel with 250,000 miles and the cables are like new. The glow plug controller is also the original. I only ran Delco batteries and none ever leaked or left me stranded. Low voltage kills electronics.

Siphoning gas out of a bad tank

This is why I put dual gauges where the big single gauge was. This way I knew exactly what was in each tank with no surprises.

    Tachometer replacement thoughts

I got tired of not knowing how much fuel was in each of the duel tanks on my 81 diesel. So I put two fuel gauges, side by side, with the short needles off the oil pressure and other gauges into the big fuel gauge. I used model railroad lettering to add the empty/full, etc on the new gauges plus...

    re: hello from South Dakota

I had an 81 Chevy 1/2t with the Olds diesel. They had a lot of head gasket problems. A friend fixed the head gasket issue by retorquing the head every 2,000 miles until they no longer needed tightening. Usually took three retorques. Last I heard, the engine was still running at 120,000 more...

Switching from dual to single tank... How do I fix the wiring?

I took out the fuel gauge, removed the needle and removed the gauge motor from the dash plate. I then put two gauge motors side by side in the dash plate. I repainted the gauge plate and used model train decals to show two fuel gauges, side by side. I them used the short, like an oil pressure...

What is the best oil viscosity to run in a 292 Inline-six with high miles?

I run Mobil Delvac 15/40 1,000ppm in everything and it got to 15 degrees below zero the other night. 5.3 Chevy LS, 01 Honda Civic, 90 GMC Sub w/ 350. Shell Rotella 15/40 runs about 1,200 ppm zinc so is one of the few oils left that keeps a flat tappet cam working. Diesel oil is high detergent...

Goofy Gas Gauge or Pesky Space Aliens!!

I fixed the dual tank and one gauge problem. I pulled the needle off the gauge and then took out the rivets holding the gauge to the plate. I done the same to a second gauge so I had two gauges and one plate. I then repainted the gauge disk black. I then drilled holes mounting the gauge units...
