Irish's pickup from hell, the 454SS.

Picking up where I left off... As best as I can recall from memory and looking at pictures. For fuel lines I ended up making my own stainless braided lines with AN fittings and earles adapters to go into the TBI. The engine made noise, turned out to be rockers hitting my aftermarket valve...

    th400 transpak after install issues

Sounds like you got it under control, I have alot of useful shit sitting around so I mail it to people meet on here that could use it instead of throwing it away or letting it sit in a box. Im not a transmission expert by any means, I just bought a book on the internet and dug in. With that...

    th400 transpak after install issues

Sounds like the center gear thingy in the pump got put in backwards, if thats the case your pump might be damaged. Check the clearance in the pump gears before you put it back together or it might not have pressure now. If its an OEM modulator its not adjustable. I have an extra B&M...

    th400 transpak after install issues

There could be something weird going on with the 1-2 shift valve since you put the B&M kit in there but my turbo 400 was doing the same thing after its rebuild, I adjusted the shift vacuum modulator and it was fine. I highly recommend the Transgo shift improver kit, especially since you have...

    Harbor Freight Tool/Product Review

I have painted a truck with a high dollar gun and the harbor freight gun is just as good. I painted the hood and tailgate on my SS with that harbor freight gun and it worked great. I loaned it to my dad so he could paint his 77 and he would not give it back. I got an ingersol rand gun from...

    Rusted exhaust studs

I did the same thing, one of my studs was a little off. If you ever wonder about the strength of a heli coil I used one on a connecting rod in a briggs lawn mower engine. It held the bearing cap on so they must be strong.

    1st in 20 years

Excellent work, that is a true score. You cant beat these old gm cars for family rides.

    Rusted exhaust studs

They are not hard at all to install, I think the threads are 3/8's and the heli-coil kit tells you what drill bit size to buy. Drill that hole out and run a tap in, install heli coil and your good to go for all eternity.

    Rusted exhaust studs

I went through this twice with my 85 K1500 and once with the 90 454SS. The factory studs are soft so just punch a hole in the center of the broken stud and drill it out. Whatever you do dont even attempt an easy out because once you break on off in the hold its 10 times harder to drill out...

    Coolant temperature sensor.

*Dont fuck with the idle air control valve, dont ever mess with an exposed idle adjustment for the linkage. Its just a big waste of time unless you have a vacuum leak you are trying to eliminate.

    Coolant temperature sensor.

I dont think its an issue with the coolant temp sensor, mine went out on the big block and it would run dog ass rich when it was cold and eventually get better. Were talking so rich it was shooting raw fuel out of the tailpipe. I would start with the 02 sensor, that could cause a rich...

    Bad gas?

You guys all fuck around too much. Pull the line going to the carb and direct it to a bucket you can put a lid on. Wrap some rags around a blow gun and stick down the filler neck. It works as long as your truck has a carb.

    Harbor Freight Tool/Product Review

I was on this same kick a few years ago, I even made a thread where you can post cool shit you find thats made in the US. I still try to find home grown products over shit from China but not religiously like I was. At that time I was actually a factory worker and now I work for a big ass evil...

New to the site from Nevada

Thats an interesting interior color, is it like a mint green? I just moved from Reno a few years ago. I drove a dark primer grey k-1500 with centerline wheels and 31 inch tires, primarily drove around the bad parts of Reno like around Virginia, plumb and Wells Ave.

    TH350 Parking Pawl Removal

If its making a clicking sound when it rolls I would say the sun gear or parking prowl itself is ruined. I guess if someone was constantly throwing the truck in park while in motion it could wear it out but its un likely. If a turbo 400 is similar to a 350 there is linkage inside the...

    TBI rebuilding service?

Jims86 rebuilt mine and my big block is running like a top. I just put it in a box, shipped it to his house and payed him some money through paypal. PM and ask him about it.

Rebuilt 350 - Abysmal Fuel Econ

I dont know how familiar you are with carbs but the tabs on a float level are just little tiny fragile pieces of stamped steel or brass. Even with really low pressure the plunger can be shoved up into that tab and adjust the float for you, especially if the fuel has no where to go besides...

Rebuilt 350 - Abysmal Fuel Econ

Here in mining country it goes "If its got tits or tracks, its going to cause you trouble".

Rebuilt 350 - Abysmal Fuel Econ

You should really check those floats anyways. My brain is telling me that not having a return line might have over pressurized the carb and bent the tab on your float. Now that you have a return line just double check the floats and if that does not solve the problem start looking into the...

Rebuilt 350 - Abysmal Fuel Econ

Its always some dumb shit that leads to the moment of figuring something out you dont want to tell your friends about. Case in point here, the big block I put together had a bad ticking sometimes knocking sound. It kept me up at night knowing I screwed up somewhere and my engine was on its way...

    serpintine belt coversion

That is so bad ass, glad I clicked on this. I had a full serpentine setup for a small block but I gave it to another member on here. I did just acquire a 1990 parts truck with a small block, I honestly never looked under the hood. Will it have the same cast aluminum stuff?

Rebuilt 350 - Abysmal Fuel Econ

IM all about timing lights and doing stuff right but a friend of mine showed me a cool trick for setting your timing. I wont do it to anything with TBI but give it a shot. Just retard the timing until the engine slows down and the carb sounds like sucking through a straw, then just advance it a...

    Manual steering box rebuild?

I am all for rebuilding, saving a buck and having a good time but I will never try to rebuild one of those stupid mother fuckers again. Mine was a power unit so it might be different but I still spent an entire weekend fighting it on the bench just to install it and disaster. The steering wheel...
