Choosing a small block for my truck

Testing cranking compression wont help you find out what your static compression is , (thats the problem you have now , to low cylinder pressure from a long duration cam). Cranking compression is changed by the cam , (static compression and cam equals dynamic compression) , so the longer...

Choosing a small block for my truck

Looking at the piston my help , but you still wont know how high in the deck they are or how thick your head gaskets are. Most 400's stock , the pistons are way down in the deck , ( I have seen them .035 down). The only way to really know what you have is pull the heads. The first thing a cam...

Choosing a small block for my truck

400's are a great truck motor , pull the cam , then you will know what cam you have and go from there. The bad part is you dont really know what compression you have to choose the right cam. Eddie rpm heads come in 64cc and 70cc and who knows what pistons you have or where they are at in the...

    Square on the Interstate

Take my 77 blazer way out in the deep desert all the time , sometimes more than 300 miles and with 4.56 gears and 38's it loves 75mph. Drives like a dream , but it does have cross over steering. Even my wife loves to drive it. I built my girl a 78 with 3.73's and 35's , 350 / 350hp roller...

    Shocks for lift

I dont know about the 5100's but I have ran the 5125 off road series , maybe try these ones 33-185606 , 14.06 to 22.5 , or 33-186542 , 15.11 to 24.35 and 33-230382 , 17.9 to 29.7 I think they come with sleeves and such , (been a while) , for different bolt sizing but you may want to...

4" rough country all spring lift

My blazer had 6' rough countries on it when I got it , I pitched everything off it , shocks , springs , sway bar , all steering and ordered new skyjacker 8" springs all around with hydro shocks. When the springs got here I cut all the centering pins off and got longer ones , then ran them...

4" rough country all spring lift

If it was me I would go with skyjacker and dont run add a leafs in the rear if you want a good ride. If you carry loads in the back still go with soft springs for ride and air bag it , I did this on my crew cab and love it . Also extend the sway bar or pitch in the dumpster , your choice. Then...

4" rough country all spring lift

I am having problems up loading my pic's now , dont know why but here we go. I have had really good luck on a lot of square's with skyjacker springs so thats my go to brand . Never have had tuff country but way back when they first came out they were a super cheap spring and then they sold out...

4" rough country all spring lift

I have two square's with 454s in them with skyjacker soft ride springs ,great ride , no problems. My blazer is a smallblock 400 but it has a heavy winch bumper and a 12,000 pound warn zeon on the front with skyjacker 8" soft ride springs all around with no sway bar and it rides and drives sweet...

    Ladder bars or Traction bars

I have done a ton of lifted , 70's , square's for myself and all of my family members , both mild to 400+ hp motors , all six inch and up lifts and played around with different set ups. Depends on what the truck is for . For myself I would ladder bar a truck , with big power for mud drags ...

    GM Goodwrench cam choice

With 3.73's and that tire size you could get away with a bit more cam. I have used the 268 cams in a few , mild , builds and they really like 9 to 1 so going with that 262 might be the way.:cheers::cheers:

    Air gap intake

For a stock 350 , stock heads , small cam you are wasting your money on an rpm. The performer is just a tick better than stock , imo. and it flows plenty for stock heads. The rpm is more for better heads and higher rpm , you would see not enough or no gain on a stock motor for the extra money...

    GM Goodwrench cam choice

Depends on which gm motor you have and what your gears and tire size is. If its the standard 8.5 to 1 replacement motor and you want to have good low end in a 4x4 , the xe268 is to much cam. That cam would be better with a higher compression motor if you want good low end. At 8 to 1 you will...
