Doubledingo's other 65 C20, Mean Green(Frame), and other parts from various trucks

Thank you, for me it is kind of crazy to look back at the beginning of the 79 project as I was working outside on dirt then. If you do not have doors on the cab, using a cherry picker with a wood beam works pretty good too. My gantry is "portable" but definitely a two or more person operation.

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

Good point Slap one of these bad boys on it and the weight limits disappear (for legal reasons this a joke)

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

I'm guessing it would be a big hassle in California, but in Missouri, you can get a medium duty truck and plate it at 24Klbs which is below the threshold for a CDL (26001gvwr). Depending on your usage can get local plates (within 50 mile radius of the registered address $28/year) or beyond local...

Doubledingo's other 65 C20, Mean Green(Frame), and other parts from various trucks

Mine is the same as the Summit one, except it's a 4000lb unit and from Northern Tool. The only difference I could find between the 2000lb and 4000lb ones is the I beam is 2ish inches taller. Definitely made my Ram project more doable. The base is only about 3 feet wide, so it can kind of hide...

Doubledingo's other 65 C20, Mean Green(Frame), and other parts from various trucks

I would consider looking into a gantry crane, the one I have is about 7 feet tall at its lowest setting, up to 11 foot something, I know you often mention having to be able to hide or conceal stuff, you could hang a couple of swings from it and call it a 1 or 2 ton swing set. Can always sell it...

Doubledingo's other 65 C20, Mean Green(Frame), and other parts from various trucks

To clarify, I meant stick it in between the rotor and backing plate, if you use a socket or extension you can drive it with a ratchet and it should by being wedged “drive” itself and push out the backing plate. You can then massage with a hammer on the outside of the backing plate as it is...

Bolt hole pattern on the front of the heads

All small block heads with accessory holes should be the same pattern, late 60s to vortec era. The 1986 and older is likely from being a perimeter bolt valve cover and not center bolt like the TBI and later valve covers.

High oil pressure after replacing pump

I wouldn’t be worried about that at all.

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Got a picture of it? perchance is it a G instead of a B? Suffix of GK is a 1965 283, 220hp, 4bbl, Manual trans. That is based on this site, no idea its accuracy though.

There should be a flat pad with numbers and letters stamped here (if it's not been decked before), then you can look that up and should provide more information on what it originally was in/power rating/etc

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

No oil consumption that I knew of, but that red truck got parked at some point due to a bad slave cylinder. On those the trans has to be pulled to change them. The same people that had that red 3500 also have a 2500hd 8.1/Allison that they bought new and I do not recall any mention of using...

Help ID-ing and sourcing a part

Looks like the seal is available on its own, if you plug in those GM numbers into Google it crosses. That is assuming it is the actual one you need.

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

I don't have any experience with a Duramax personally, but some with an 8.1/6 speed. Not a race truck by any means but pulled good. Not sure what the mileage was like but I'd imagine high singles low doubles loaded. Don't have a picture of it when it was pulling it but that same GMC hauled...

    What year bed is this

I dont know the exact year, but I’d guess 1984-1985, as the 85 I parted had it, on the front of the bedsides there are some plastic plugs, that are not present on earlier beds. Anyone with an 81-84 say if your bed has them?

I would get a back tap/chaser from a local auto parts store over using a cut tap to chase the threads. Especially over a cheaper cut tap. A lot of times they [cheap taps] will cut oversized on the major diameter. I don’t know for certain on sbc head spark plug holes, but a lot of automotive...

Best way to transport 19 55 gallon barrels?

Unless you are aiming for a record on the 1/4 mile, I agree it shouldn't be that light... Seeing the title of this thread pop up reminded me of the optimum layout for 17 boxes in a square pattern: Sorry if this ruins someone's day :signs8:

    Summit Brand Headers???

Fwiw, the Hookers on my 76 are their ceramic coating, and looked like yours. They were on my buddies blazer first, and only a couple years old, blazer was a fair weather vehicle too. The ceramic coated hookers on my bosses challenger are the same way. What is weird is when I sand blasted mine...
