Safe load for suburban stock rack

I've been carrying 250-300 lbs. up there on a regular basis for a dozen years without any problems. Only issue is I make sure that nobody climbs up there to load, I do it all by standing on the rear tires and hoisting everything in. I started out just lashing everything to the factory rack but...

    az emissions lol

I noticed you have a couple of lifted trucks in your sig. Doesn't Massachusetts have a law limiting suspension mods to 2" up or down from stock?

    Suburban exhaust

Keep in mind that you have a Suburban when you're getting recommendations on mufflers. That Magnagrowl Super Boomer muffler someone might suggest may sound great to the owner of a pickup, but the extra noise gets old quick when your passenger compartment is sitting right on top of it.

    Water pump failure destroys radiator

I wouldn't trust that fan to spin true after being mangled like that. You gotta ask yourself, "Do I want to buy a new fan now or replace the radiator yet again sometime soon?"

    Square body flatbed

I like the industrial look of this except for the wasted space below the bed. It would be cool to fab up some diamond plate carry boxes that hang even with the bottom of the cab. Sort of a military version of the Fall Guy truck.

    Pricing out a paint job

$3500 for a Suburban. Two tone with some extra coats of clear. Body was pretty straight with a tiny bit of rust behind the window seals. Most of the quotes I got were north of $5k.

    What is this?

Same thing, the evap canister stores vapors in a charcoal membrane.

    What is this?

Fuel evap canister. It stores fuel vapors coming from the tank and routes them into the intake system when the engine is running. It's a passive system and needs no maintenance other than checking for rotted hoses every once in a great while.

What have you done to your square lately??

Sweet! I'd be sure to go to the same shop every time just to avoid any future problems. Noticed it's running pretty clean on the sniffer, wish I could say the same for mine.

What have you done to your square lately??

I was looking on Summit and they have Doug's Tri-Y's (which claim to be CARB compliant in some cases) that look more like yours than the Thorleys. I can see the air injection ports on yours but without a CARB compliance tag welded on to them you're going to have a problem with the emissions test.

Did ANY exhaust manifolds have an O2 bung? My '89 sbc has the O2 sensor located after the Y-pipe, just before the cat.

    79 c10 with hydroboost

The only C10s with hb in '79 were diesels. I was having problems with my hb system while braking and turning at the same time. The reman pumps I was getting from AutoZone weren't providing enough pressure. Installed a high flow pump from PSC to solve the problem. Assuming your power steering...

    Convenional vs Synthetic

I have to ask you Iowan, do you have a job? It takes money to own and modify these squares and you list your age as 14. I know when I was 14 I was lucky to have a Schwinn and maybe $10 in my pocket, so if you have a truck that's actually yours I'm impressed. It's also curious that it's 12:30 in...

I wish it were that easy. Cali requires testing even if it's zero miles per year. The only way out of it is registering a vehicle as non-operational and if you get caught driving one without tags the fine is hefty. I did get caught doing that once, I have a Honda CT90 I use for short runs to the...

Yeah, I still like the burb. Really don't see that many on the road anymore, I guess it's a combination of the fuel economy making them get driven less and the government crushing a bunch of 'em. Just really tired of sweating the emissions test every two years. 1975 and older don't have to deal...

    Suburban 35's on Stock Wheels

It's possible to keep the running boards on there if you want to. I used a straight edge to follow the line of the wheel well down and traced the angle across the steps with a sharpie. Took the boards off and trimmed them on a table saw using an abrasive blade tilted to the traced line. A rubber...
