Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

Well I just got my claims-to-be-remanufactured ECM about 3 hours ago, I'm certainly going to try this first and see if it solves my issues because it would be the most seamless method. If not then we go deeper down the rabbit hole (and deeper in the hole money-wise as well). An assembled...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

MegaSquirt looks like quite a neat solution - only problem is I'm not sure who I could hire to assemble the thing since it apparently comes as a bare PC board and a million loose components (some assembly required, batteries not included, not suitable for children under 12 without adult...

    General Motor Swap Questions

Only thing I'd add (having done engine swaps but not specifically Chevy) is be prepared to deal with broken bolts and studs - may be less problematic since you're swapping engines but things like exhaust manifold bolts invariable break on removal - you'll probably need (or at least want to have...

87 V10 TBI to EFI upgrade

Related question: If a Sniper setup requires that much more pressure, will it require also changing all the lines from the tank to the engine compartment as well (along with the frame-rail mounted filter) to handle the higher pressure? Or can just the pump be changed?

    Good parts

I have had decent luck with NAPA - RockAuto is good if you know EXACTLY what you need down to every little possible subvarient, but if you are confronted with 2 or 3 possibilities and guess wrong - you're pretty much stuck with it because there is no way to ever contact someone for help (which...

Factory power steering cooler? 1991 Suburba

I have that setup on my 1989 R2500 - it has the optional oil cooler in front of the rad as well but no external trans cooler (just the heat transfer coil in the radiator tank). So far its hanging on OK - my oil cooler was broken away from all the original brackets and cheerfully zip-tied in...

Should my TBI's fuel pressure act like this?

Having played a lot with this part of the system recently, I'm wondering if what you're seeing is the fuel pump relay switching off while cranking, but then it starts after a couple seconds because the oil pressure switch is forcing the fuel pump back on once pressure builds. Try...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

I wonder if we just discovered the problem: That link is for an 1228747 unit, my truck seems to have (upon visual inspection) a 1227747 unit. Did someone swap in the wrong ECU??? Is there any way to determine which ECU I am supposed to have?

Havn't been able to get back to this for a bit - life intervenes..... How do I find these 1320 electronics people? They don't seem to have a web site, their YouTube channel has 5 videos posted a decade ago and no contact info. I think its pretty clear I need this kind of tool if I want to try...

    ‘91 Suburban A/C Cooling Help

My A/C never worked all that well - I'm thinking the parallel condensor might be in my future if I can get it running reliabily again. I have gauges but only a small passing knowledge of what I'm seeing. Finding that person with years of experience on these older systems is becoming rare - I...

    Ignition switch upgrade

I'm going to get more involved with it if and when I can get the column out, it will be a lot easier out on the bench. Its a lower priority right now though since I need to be able to reliably drive the truck before worrying about someone stealing it...

    Ignition switch upgrade

My Suburban has a similar version of this (installed by previous owner) and overall I think its a good idea. I had an aqquaintance who had a similar year Suburban stolen, they pawned all his tools, picked up strippers and then intentionally punched it into a tree or pole completely totalling...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

Fuel pump relay has been replaced. I swapped it as an outside chance it could be causing an excess electrical draw/voltage sag. I'm not losing the fuel pump itself (I even jumpered the oil pressure switch to force an always-on state and still had it shut down). When it went into the second...

1990 Suburban oil pressure gauge only reads 30 PSI

Possibly - I bought and was planning on putting in a 3 gauge "A" pillar housing with Autometer tach, temp and oil pressure but unfortunately the person who was helping me with that passed away so it sitting in the house...I don't know what happened to the actual sending units that went with it...

1990 Suburban oil pressure gauge only reads 30 PSI

My oil pressure gauge (1989 Suburban) does give variable readings but I always wonder if it is telling the truth or not...I've seen it fluxuate between 30 and 45 while cruising down the highway at steady speed and unchanging temperature, sometimes see up to 40 at idle and then lower to around 30...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

Yes - the distributor itself is brand new (the pickup coil on the orig one did go bad), and it came with a brand new module/cap/rotor installed. When the problem started I changed the module again, also with no change in results. When the pickup coil went bad, the whole fuel and ignition...

    ‘91 Suburban A/C Cooling Help

With real coolant I don't expect it would do any harm - I've found radiators in the scrapyard that were still clean inside after years as long as they had actual coolant (for corrosion inhibitition). I'd be worried about galvanic actions of using valves that may not be the right metallurgy - I...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

Good call to check on that, but I have already replaced the TPS thinking it might have been related to the lean run condition that sometimes pops up. Did not make any change so I'm keeping the old one as a "probably good" spare...

    ‘91 Suburban A/C Cooling Help

When I was rummaging around under there (trying to get ECU part numbers) it appeared as though the blend door (at least on my 1989) is operated by cable - and the diverters that send the air either to the degoggers, chest-level vents or floor vents are vacuum operated. My blend door most...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

I'm not looking to do any kind of performance tuning or anything - its a stock engine with no upgrades or mods, but the idea of having something with actual readout ability would certainly be nice. Can you tell me any more about this?

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

Transmission is a TH400. Engine is a 454 all factory (no headers/uprated heads/hot cam or whatever). I get an intermittant 44-Lean error which should not make it randomly stop running. I have reworked all the grounds I can find, including adding an extra one to go between the coil bracket on...

Now we move into desperation territory (seeking advice)...

I still have not found my phantom (or demon more accurately) electronics problem causing random shutoffs and/or extreme running issues. Without some sort of extremely elaborate test rig, I can't truly test the wiring under all conditions....sitting at home in the driveway with basic DVM...

I hate the power window and door lock switches

I always prefer to use proper tools when available - I have not seen one of these "ratchet" crimping tools - I assume it uses some sort of arcane laws of physics to increase the mechanical advantage? I'm also going to assume its not something one can get at the local Harbor Freight or Autozone?

I hate the power window and door lock switches

My original door switches had fallen apart when I got the truck, along with the connector. I've got the Dorman ones that Rock Auto sells, but they are not holding up for me. I've considered a custom panel with center-off toggles, I'd like ones that return to off when released so theres no risk...

I hate the power window and door lock switches

I used to work for the phone company and that was still (at the time) a commonly used technique. It works better with solid core wire than stranded though, stranded doesn't tend to hold the shape of the wrap arounds very well....
