Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

Thanks everyone. Yall were correct: it was a ground issue. I managed to fix that problem. It was the one loose ground wire at the ground bus (photographed above). Interestingly, the retrosound radio is still dead (and is truly dead—I tested it on the bench). So, I think the radio really did...

I did. Triple checked. Cleaned all the terminals and bolts with a wire brush and contact cleaner.

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

I already had the cluster out by the time I read your post. Sorry. I’ll try it once I get everything back together. Thanks so much for helping me brainstorm. I really appreciate it.

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

I replaced the headlight switch/dimmer. That did nothing. So, I then lost my mind and pulled the whole dash and cluster. My initial thought was that the circuit board on the back of the cluster might be bad. After pulling the cluster, I found this (photo attached). I assume this is a common...

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

Yes. I completely removed every connection the aux lights have to the truck (ground, hot at the battery, and hot at the fuse panel). I agree that there must be some correlation. Need help brainstorming what it could be.

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

I completely unwired my new aux lights. No change. New symptom: if I roll the dimmer knob all the way to the right (full dim) everything continues to work properly. If I give the interior lights any additional brightness, all the bad symptoms return.

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

My historically very-reliable Suburban threw me an electronic curveball today (and it may be my fault). I will endeavor to provide the full story, since I do not know what may or may not be important: I installed some back up lights yesterday afternoon. It was pretty straightforward. The...

New engine installed - need TBI timing/idle help

I actually did the very first time I drove it with the new engine. 1-2 was really harsh during the first drive around the block. It had lost a little trans fluid from the converter when we were moving the trans around during the engine swap. I checked the level and topped off the trans fluid...

New engine installed - need TBI timing/idle help

Hey everyone. I just swapped a new ATK TBI 350 into my 88 suburban. Everything went well. Good oil pressure. Temps are good. No leaks. No smoke The engine runs and drives decent. Cruising is great. The only problems are hard starting (lots of racket almost like it’s missing as it tried to...

Anyone know where I can find this AC compressor bracket?

Yeah, my issue is I am out of town the next few days and can’t get it to a welder before I leave. I would love to have one sitting on the front step when I get back so I can press on with this engine swap.

Anyone know where I can find this AC compressor bracket?

Not sure how it broke, but it did. I need a new one ASAP (doing a motor swap). Anyone know where I can purchase this bracket? 88 350 TBI, AC Compressor rear (compressor located on upper driver’s side). Thanks in advance.

New Engine time (88 TBI) - Any tips?

I bit the bullet and ordered an ATK rebuilt TBI 350 with the roller cam and 4-bolt main upgrade. I know--it isnt a sexy upgrade. But, I'm not interested in an extensive swap on this truck and performance TBI setups seems like a lot of hassle for minimal gain. What other items should I tackle...

    Passenger window troubleshooting, help please

The 88 Suburban is being moody. Last week it was the heater core, this week it’s the passenger front window. That window has always had an intermittent issue. Specifically, it has always worked from the passenger side switch (even when the driver’s side is being moody), but it only works...

    Heater Core question

Got the box back in during lunch today. Getting the box studs and core necks lined up with the firewall holes is easily the hardest part of the job. I finally tilted the box back and got the lower studs started. After I did that, I went to the engine side and just barely started the nuts on...

    Heater Core question

I should add (in case it helps folks in the future): the “hidden” nut near the inner fender was a breeze to get off using a long shank socket, a u-joint “wobble” adapter, and a 12 inch extension on a half inch drive ratchet wrench (1/4 might be even better for wrench swing in the tight area...

    Heater Core question

Box came out pretty easy. I got it split apart and the new Summit core fit nicely. Buttoned her back up with the aluminum blend door latch and pin (thanks for that pointer—the original definitely broke as soon as I touched it). I have everything cleaned up and ready to go back in the truck...

    Heater Core question

Summit core showed up and looks good. Went ahead and ordered some foam tape and constant tension hose clamps from Amazon (should be here today). Going to try to tackle the swap this weekend. Thanks again for the advice and direction. That's why I love this forum :favorites13:

    Heater Core question

Thanks fellas. Going to order the brass/copper unit from Summit. Anything else I should replace “while I am in there?” Is the evaporator in the same box as the heater core?

    Heater Core question

My 88 Burb appears to be leaking at the heater core. Are any of the replacement options better than others (I know quality on things like radiators and AC compressors can vary greatly)? If there is a quality option, can someone point me towards it? I’m willing to spend more money to have a...

    88 Suburban - R12 to R134 questions

Nothing like that. Just a higher, more labored idle and a bit more load on the engine at all RPMs. I am relatively certain it is normal.

    88 Suburban - R12 to R134 questions

Closing the loop on this one: I had a mechanic buddy search for the leak, vacuum out the system, and then do a "blow and go" to R134. Sniffer turned up nothing so we resorted to a little UV dye. The only leak we found was at the back of the compressor. We changed out the hose seals and it...

    88 Suburban - R12 to R134 questions

Hey everyone. I know lots has been discussed on this topic, but I was hoping to consolidate a few of my questions and get some experienced advice on my specific plan. My 88 Suburban V10 has rear AC. It still runs on R12. I put a new Delco pancake compressor and OEM oriface in it last year...
