    5.3 LM7 going in my 87

Here is a pic of it last night when I got back from the test run. I still have some more wiring to tidy up but the bulk of the work is done.

The engine is in and running now. It was a long weekend but it was definitely worth it. I spent most of yesterday running new fuel lines and changing out the sending unit. The sending unit can be changed by sluding the bed back. I also made some bolts to hold my tahoe radiator solidly in...

We are getting closer with each passing day. Working on beating the crunch of time. Today I was able to get my shift linkage ran. I used a Lokar linkage. It took alot more adjusting than I thought it would have to get it to go through all the gears. I'll have to see how it holds up. I was...

Ok. Thanks again for all the info! I haven't seen any diesels at the two yards I visit here. I'll give it a few weeks and try again later.

Ok. Does it have to be a diesel pedal or will any pedal from the 90's work?

Ok. I'll look into that option. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe I can find one on ebay or something.

Yes, that's correct. I cut the donors pedal off and welded my pedal onto it. I should have took a picture of both beforehand. The donor DBW pedal comes out and curves towards the passenger side of the vehicle. When I mounted it to the firewall, the pedal was damn near hitting the...

Yeah. If I had a drive by cable setup, the accelerator pedal portion would have been alot easier. Going to post a pic of what I did for my setup soon.

I have not. Right now, I just want to get the motor in and running. Today I fabbed up the accelerator pedal. I cut off the DBW pedal and drilled a hole close to the top. I cut the 87 pedal right where the shaft turns horizontal to the ground. Put that through the hole on the DBW bracket and...

Yeah. The extra line looked like a return line.

You should be fine. I ordered a new pump for 2 reasons. 1) the pump that came on my engine was the hydroboost one with too many fittings on it 2) I had a brand new steering gear and didn't want to take a chance at runing any trash through it.

If you need me to, I can get you the part number for the power steering pump i'm using. Let me know.

I used the power steering hoses from the old pump. Factory to a 1987 truck. I never unhooked my steering gear. Pressure bolted right up and return is just a hose barb/clamp.

I did some test fitting of my 34" Tahoe radiator. Drilled some big ass holes in my core support for the rubber bushing to drop into, and got it in place to discover that the shroud is off center by around 2 inches! Lol. I'm either gonna drill two new holes next to the ones I just drilled or cut...

The replacement yoke was a success! The driveshaft is back in and the engine/ trans is ready to be bolted in place.

I found a possible solution to my driveshaft issues without having to get a longer driveshaft. They make a longer yoke that will fit the 4L60E. It is a 27 spline and has 1310 series U-Joints. I have to go out and do some measuring later today and I may go that route instead of getting a...

This leaves us here, with the assembly in place. I have ran into an issue with the dipstick tube hitting the firewall. That's preventing my dirty dingo sliders from sliding back to the position I was them. I have a lokar flexible dipstick on order so hopefully that'll let me slide back the small...

I was able to get the engine/trans dropped in as one piece without taking the hood off. I did remove the springs though so I could raise it higher. I used a ratchet strap and attached it to the bed of the truck to hold the hood up. As you can see in the pic, it was a very tight fit installing...

Empty engine bay pic and pic with the LS and the old v6 both on the floor. I had to swap out mounts to v8 mounts. The last pic is with the v8 mounts installed.

Update! I spent alot of the weekend working on the swap. I picked up a harness from one of my friends and a PCM to go with it. Hooked everything up to the jumpbox and the engine started right up. Here is a video:

No major updates here. I was able to get my new sending unit prepped over the weekend. I went with a '87 unit and cut the ends off to get the smooth pipe for my compression to -AN fittings. I installed the AC Delco EP381 pump on the unit.

Thanks!! I still have some more to do on the wiring harness. I've took a quick break on the project while I take care of some other things on some of my other vehicles but I will be back on it very soon!! This bitter cold winter weather and quick darkness in the evening sucks. I did get the...

Ok. Thanks for sharing all of the information. I'll update here with what I find when I get to that point. Right now, I'm just messing around with working on the harness. I am in the process of soldering the TAC module connector back on but I have some more research to do. There are 2 wires...
