    Rear bleeder access trouble

I've tried to bleed them with another person pushing the pedal and almost no fluid comes out of the bleeder when the pedal is pressed. A little comes out, but nothing like I expected. So I think it might be that the proportioning valve has shut off flow to the rears and I need to open it back up.

reset proportioning valve (brake dash light on)

Do you think the Slamming procedure would work to re-set the spool if the truck is on stands with the wheels off? I could put it in gear, letting the rear wheels turn and simulate about 10-20 mph, then slam on the brakes.

    Rear bleeder access trouble

Will this only work with the special tools or could I use a small pick, like a dentist pick?

    Rear bleeder access trouble

Well, the 12 point 5/16 wrench was just long enough to work so solved the bleeder access problem. I tried fitting my ratchet/socket in there but no luck. However, now I seem to have the dreaded proportioning valve problem because I only get small trickles of fluid out of the open bleeder and...

Looks like VIM tools, mfg part B455 is the red handled bleeder wrench in case anybody else finds they need this. https://www.toolsource.com/general-service-tools-c-1321_79_84/brake-bleeder-wrench-516-in-hex-p-51079.html

    Rear bleeder access trouble

Well good, now I don't feel so embarrassed asking about this. It is a cab and chassis truck and the leaf springs have 10 leafs, about 4 inches tall. I've tried the offset 6 point brake wrenches and they don't fit without hitting an obstruction or getting onto the bleeder in a position where...

    Rear bleeder access trouble

I haven't tried this yet, good idea. But space is really tight, so not sure if it will fit down from the top.

    Rear bleeder access trouble

I'm embarrassed to ask because this seems like it should be so simple. But I'm having a terrible time accessing my rear wheel cylinder bleeders. Regular wrenches are too short. Tried the special offset, long brake wrenches and they are obstructed by leaf springs, brake line and other stuff...

    Warn hydraulic winch?

Chainsaw winch is interesting, didn't know those existed. Would those stand up to frequent, hours-long use or are they more for occasional pulling? Thinking about adding a winch to the front of my truck for log recovery and I'm more interested in a high duty cycle than a high weight pull...

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Yes, I plan to check that too. I think it is good, but will take a look inside because also plan to change the gear oil.

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

No, the old seal was in correctly too.

Who sells 1989 TBI wire harness parts??

Some of these connectors are available on Rock Auto under the "Electrical Connector" menu. But these are just the connectors plus short sections of wire, not the entire wiring harness.

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Ok, thanks for the help. Just so I'm clear, you think the first pic should face inward toward the bearing? Seems like this would also let the seal collect some gear oil which I'd guess would help keep the bearing lubricated.

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Suppose its possible that the other seal was put in backwards but the first picture seemed to match how the old seal was installed. Also, if I installed it with the side in the first pic facing outward, it looks like the seal would catch and collect all sorts of brake dust/grit etc since there...

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Once I got the old seal out, the direction became apparent. It looks like the seal side where the rubber extends to and past the metal should face outward and the seal side with a gap between the rubber and the metal portion of the seal should face towards the bearing. Posted pics and a...

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Not sure I'm looking in the right place but nothing is standing out as a groove. I have new AC Delco seals that have a metal side and a plastic coated side. A novice question, but which side goes in which way? Metal towards the bearing or metal facing outward? Is there a way to tell which...

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Thank you for the advice, very helpful. Sounds like I should use the regular seal unless I have a spindle groove. What does the groove typically look like and how wide is it usually?

14 bolt rear hub seal advice

Replacing rear drum brakes on an 89 V3500 dually which failed early due to gear oil plus brake fluid soaked shoes. Also replacing leaking wheel cylinders. I've read about these "improved" two part seals that can work better than the fixed seals. Any advice on whether the two part seal is...

    Driveshaft center support bearing questions

The rubber around the center support bearing on my truck is a bit dry rotted and a small piece is missing from the bottom side. Do people think this is worth replacing as a preventive measure or should I just let it ride? If I push/pull on the driveshaft, there is a little play, but not much...

Looks like I can get Autoline rebuilt injectors for $26 each on Rock Auto. Doesn't seem too bad of a price.

    TBI emissions control adventures

Well, thanks for the help all. I attempted the emissions test today and failed, but not by much. Just over the requirements for HC and CO. Guess I'll have to tinker around with it some more.

    TBI emissions control adventures

It was the passenger side injector, opposite the O2 sensor. In general, yes they are spraying in a cone shape, almost appears like it is pulsing when you look at it from certain angles. Maybe the extra drips are causing it to run overly rich/uncontrolled? Might that lead to a code 13 if it is...
