I want to see some lowered 3/4 tons

F: 235/85/16 on 16x7 5 lug steelies w/ 1.25” spacers R: 285/75/16 on 16x8 5 lug steelies w/ 1.25” spacers. Rears rub a smidge, but other than that it has worked out good. I may take the spacers off, it has a great look, but when I load down the bed it definitely rubs if I am not careful.

I want to see some lowered 3/4 tons

I just lowered my half ton but it has 16” wheels and 3/4 ton hubcaps so it looks like a 3/4.

    Longbed Inspiration needed

What good is a thread without a follow up... here’s what I ended up doing. 1979 GMC Sierra Heavy Half. Ended up dropping the front 3” and the back roughly 4”, I didn’t count. I think someone may have started to lower it before I had it so I’m not sure how much lower the rear is now. I changed...

    Longbed Inspiration needed

This is good advice. I don’t have the means to fix it. I have clearcoated, or POR 15’d the bad areas until I can fix it. Kinda rocking the sleeper look for now.

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

So far so good. I replaced the thermostat with a 180 degree instead of the 160. I let it idle for 50 minutes with some throttle wraps, no issues. Drove it today, no issues. In fact, the overflow tank finally dropped after sucking the coolant back in after loosing it. even after loosing coolant...

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

Did some testing..... First addressing a cracked head as suggested. I started it cold, run under the hood and felt the rad hose. Soft, wasn’t hard at all. Next the bag trick. I cupped a plastic bag over the rad and it didn’t do anything. I let it idle a bit and still nothing, it didn’t inflate...

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

Initially I did overfill my overflow tank about month or 2 ago. I filled it to the “FULL” line while cold (which is wrong, I know), I kept loosing coolant and I was trying to be proactive on my levels haha. Turns out it was a split in my radiator cap seal that was leaking. But since then I gave...

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

I have an Edelbrock Intake as well, never considered that. Let me try a new cap first. Thanks all

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

Both good ideas. A test kit is good to have, I need to buy one. As far as the radiator cap, I think it was like 3 or 4ish dollars. Can’t remember, but it was very cheap. It probably isn’t the best quality, but I’m not sure.

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

Just to throw some more details out, I went down to look at the truck to see what I could tell with out any tools. I’ve been moving and the tools are still in the last garage. My overflow jug after loosing about a gallon of coolant in the ground in the last weeks, it is still “FULL” when cold...

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

Oh nice... well I appreciate the honesty. This is a crate 350 with 24,000 miles, what is the likelihood of a cracked head? Looks like the time might have come to put the cam in if I have it apart ....

    Coolant tank keeps puking coolant

Hey guys, I’m baffled. Last 5 times or so that I’ve used my truck, it pukes coolant out of the resivoir. It isn’t running hot, the son of a gun barely gets to 150 degrees. It doesn’t boil, it just expands and spills out onto the ground. I have lost probably half a gallon of coolant total, but...

Are any sway bar mods needed after lowering?

You are exactly right! I bought some 5 lug generic 16 inch Steelies and am running 235/85/16 up front, 285/75/16 out back. I am thinking about changing the fronts to a 245/75/16 or 255/70/16 up front instead of the 235’s. Has a bit of an awkward look when looking at it from the rear, width wise...

Are any sway bar mods needed after lowering?

Mine has slight camber as well. I put so little miles on the truck, I will probably wear out the backs quicker than I will the fronts with camber. You can see what I have to hopefully get squared away with an alignment. Still got some tweeking to do. I think I may lower the back another inch...

Are any sway bar mods needed after lowering?

Good to know! Since mine was only a 3, I may just leave it be. I do not have the luxury of a rear sway bar on my pickup. I will have to get mine in for an alignment though, it’s not quite where it needs to be after the drop, but I fully anticipated that.

Are any sway bar mods needed after lowering?

Hey all, I stumbled across “sway bar brackets for lowered trucks” and it got me wondering. I lowered my 79 longbed and I didn’t address anything sway bar related. Am I needing to change the bracket for the sway bar? It’s a 3” drop up front over stock, nothing I thought was too crazy...

    Setting a timing tab?

Looks like I misunderstood my timing tab... 8 degrees ATDC is really 8 degrees BTDC. I had it opposite in my head. I reved it up until it wouldn’t advance anymore and it seems to be around 26 ish total timing. Man do I need to advance it. I ended up cleaning up the tabs because they are crusty...

    Setting a timing tab?

Hey all. I have 2 timing indicators on my 350, both are apparently wrong? 1 is straight above the balancer, the other is about the 2 o’clock position on the balancer. I bought a piston stop tool to see if my balancer slipped, but my balancer mark is on TDC. The Balancer is an 8” diameter and...

    Rear End Rebuild?

Unfortunately, I didn’t check the backlash. I’m just the average guy working on this thing so I didn’t think to measure it when I did the spool. I will say that I did play around with the ring gear when the spiders were out. I was twisting the ring gear forwards and backwards to see if I could...

    Rear End Rebuild?

The truck has work done to it. It’s got a new motor, the tranny has a shift kit and the rear end had upgraded gears. Unfortunately, they howl ever so slightly at 45 mph. The truck is very solid, I am very happy with what I paid for it. It’s set up to be a sleeper, pretty much the bottom side up...

    Rear End Rebuild?

GREAT info, thank you very much. Unfortunately I paid $1,450 for the truck, so I hate the idea of throwing almost $1,000 at it Haha. I will definitely do some talking around, see what I can find. Might as well throw a better gear set in. I would hate to have them set the backlash and pre-load...
