    Aux Battery Tray local

1981 C10 6 cylinder, I installed the auxiliary battery tray behind the driver's side headlight. Screw holes already there. OOPS yours is older than mine:

Disconnected mystery wire in 1982 C10

Looks to me like the brake warning light that comes from the proportioning valve under the engine on a crossmember. Looking straight down from the top of the radiator, steering gearbox is on the right: Wiring Circuit #33 = Brake warning light

    Getting inside the cowl

When I cleaned mine out with a vacuum, there was only light surface rust left. I had no actual rusted out areas or open seams. I did remove some small areas of cracked sealant, but I was pleased that it looked pretty good after all the cleaning, degreasing, and spraying in the Permatex rubber...

    Getting inside the cowl

https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/cowl-area-cleanout-are-these-fasteners-the-original-correct-ones-finished.42960/#post-910502 Here's what I did over the course of 3 days with no rain. Easier to do than I initially thought.

New member from Montana, '81 C10 longbed, 250 6 cylinder

Last bit about the head repair, someone snapped a candid photo of the fat, old man sitting on the engine cleaning things up for reassembly. I don't recognize him unless I look in a mirror. I really am getting too old for this ****!!!!

Spare tire carrier? DONE, installed an in bed carrier

Thanks for the observation about the brakes hose. I checked and it has a nice arch towards the rear of the truck, exactly in the same plane as the view from the picture!

Installed this one from LMC truck, very happy with it:

What have you done to your square lately??

Installed the auxiliary fuse block and cleaned up the washer pump wiring. Previous owner installed the electric washer pump and used quick taps to wire into the wiper harness. I have seen this for 10 years and finally got sick of it: Old crap removed: splices and dressed up wires stuffed into...

What have you done to your square lately??

I installed the LMC headlight relay kit today in my '81 C10 6 cylinder. I spent about 5 hours working without hurrying, pretty easy job. And best of all, it actually worked correctly as intended with no troubles on the first try! What this accomplishes is to remove the electrical load (current...

Victory over the radiator drain valve/**** leaking.

Ahhh, sometimes the small victories are the most satisfying! I spent way tooo much time and effort on this, but it is now done! The original that had a tiny drip when cold, and a steady drip when warm. Note the coolant puddle: These are 1/4" pipe thread, NOT 1/8" or 3/8" like some stores and...

What have you done to your square lately??

Painted the 4 rims, shined the tires, tightened down 2 loose nuts on the carburetor base, cleaned the hub caps, and then noticed a wet spot under the radiator. UGh, now the drain petcock is dripping ever so slowly, could not get it to stop. Another coolant system glitch, hopefully the last, I...

What have you done to your square lately??

Installed the LMC in-bed spare tire carrier, easy 3 hole drilling and it appears to be secure enough to deter casual thieves. I added my own lock and some longer stainless steel fasteners to suit my situation. I like it but will probably rotate the lock bar 180 degrees so the flat side it...

Removed heater box from '81 C10 to replace the heater core, easier than I expected.

UPDATE: FINISHED with heater box repairs. Did not take pictures. Dodging heavy showers all day, but got it done. Reassembled with a new aluminum heater core, wife helped reinstall the assembly in the truck. Flushed, cleaned, flushed and refilled the cooling system with 5 quarts of...

What have you done to your square lately??

I expected there to be some small price difference between the local stores, but three places had them at $29.99 each.

What have you done to your square lately??

Noticed the passenger's side headlight was darker than the drivers, sure enough had moisture inside: New headlights I got from Rock Auto, $41 for two delivered, versus $60 for two picked up at Autozone or Oreilly. Only waited 4 days for delivery: While I do prefer to purchase from a local...

Removed heater box from '81 C10 to replace the heater core, easier than I expected.

And the heater core has secret numbers on it, only visible when viewed from a very low angle.

Removed heater box from '81 C10 to replace the heater core, easier than I expected.

It went well and quickly. Disconnect coolant hoses. Take out the glove box and ash tray assemblies, removed the 3 control cables, one screw to the defroster Y pipe, and one 10mm head screw on the far-right interior firewall. Burned off the paint and coating from the three 1/4" studs that...

    Wiper issues

Don't forget to check the parking position switch on the wiper motor, it could be stuck closed or not opening when the wipers get to the bottom of the windshield. Simple 2 wire connector near the top of the wiper motor assembly, and gently remove the black cover to get access to the switch...

Waiting for a new heater core to arrive and wanted to still drive the truck while I work on it.

    Jack ideas?

This was, and still is, behind the seat when I bought the truck: I tested it and it works fine if needed. Kind of wedges in there and doesn't rattle. I also keep a couple of short 2 by 4 pieces to help if I need to use in the dirt. I do have the original lug wrench under the seat but the...

What new tools have you got lately?

Refurbished my Craftsman 328.12020 2.25 ton floor jack, made in the '70s. Heavy duty, made in Japan model, $49 repair kit and 9 hours of labor spread over 3 days. This thing is heavy and has lots of tiny springs, balls, seals, washers and is well machined on the insides. Old oil was amber, new...

What have you done to your square lately??

4 new Goodyear Wrangler tires installed at Discount Tire, $480 out the door with veteran discount. Very happy with the look and ride, took it up to 75 mph on the highway for a mile and it was a smooth ride. Replaced two tires from 2008 and two tires from 2013, they were getting pretty weather...

Spare tire carrier? DONE, installed an in bed carrier

Back to working on the 1981 C10 truck. When purchased, the spare tire was just tossed in the bed. I finally paid some attention to the rear under the bed. Appears that I have no spare tire carrier: Just a busted and bent stud: (and a bad exhaust pipe hanger) the owners manual shows the "glide...
