Transmission is causing engine to stall

Could it be a vacuum leak? What is the manifold vacuum at idle in Park, and in gear? I've seen a tight stock converter cause this when a way too big cam is added, but sounds like your engine is pretty much stock. And, wow, a bent pushrod is something that I've never heard of.

    I got a 87 R10 and I just can't leave it alone

Have to ask why you want to lower the truck and hurt low-to-mid RPM power if you plan to drive it around your property and haul stuff??? Cams are just one part of a total package. Adding only a performance cam to a stock engine will reduce cylinder pressure, manifold vacuum, and torque.

    Long tube headers/dual exhaust question

I've installed an H-pipe on one vehicle, and an X-pipe on another. Have to say I didn't notice much difference in sound or seat-of-the-pants performance. But it stands to reason that back pressure will be somewhat reduced with two paths for an exhaust pulse to follow. I didn't watch the...

    New Air Compressor

My compressed air needs are much less than most of you guys. I bought a 40 gallon 3 hp Puma last year from a local compressor supply store that's been in business since the 1980s. It's a high quality, USA-built compressor, and I got to deal face-to-face with a guy who really knows his stuff...

    Headlights go on and off

Yes, the light switch's internal protection may be tripping/resetting, depending on how much current your lights are drawing. Standard sealed beam headlight wattage is 60/55 watts. H4-type halogen bulbs can be 60/55, 100/80, or even 130/90. The second two can even melt wire insulation and...

Haynes manual suggest silicone dielectric grease for ignition module?

I used thermal thermal paste when I worked as an electronic technician in the 1970s. A common use on a variety of electronic equipment was for mounting a power transistor to a heat sink. Something like this:

Haynes manual suggest silicone dielectric grease for ignition module?

Absolutely! On another note, GM modules were very reliable, but the same is (was?) true for MSD and even Accel. My truck's MSD module was installed sometime around Y2K. But today, who knows where any of them are manufactured, and to what standards? My experience with AC Delco...

    Spark plug color

I have seen more timing advance cure a low RPM stumble on at least two engines with Edelbrock carbs. For example, if you're at 10 degrees, try 14. And double check everywhere for vacuum leaks.

Who’s lookin for a Squarebody shaggin wagon?

Join the club! I had a couple old pickups back in the 70s and 80s that I'd like back, like an 81 Silverado. And don't laugh, a 76 Ford Courier, which was Ford's version of a Mazda pickup. That little guy would do just about all the "truck stuff" that I needed it to, and get >20mpg while doing...

Who’s lookin for a Squarebody shaggin wagon?

I had a long wheelbase 74 Chevy G20 (3/4 ton) window van back in the day. That thing would carry two dirt bikes and all kinds of other stuff behind the second row seat. Body style was the same as the OP's picture, but my grille was probably a little different. Engine was a 350 with Q-Jet...

    LMC Parts

As mentioned above by others, I buy from LMC when they are the only place that has the item I need. I just placed an order last week for two parts that probably weigh less than one pound total, including the package. They charged me $16.50 shipping from MO to TX, and that's via the Post...

    Power steering with Headers

I used Alan Grove #402L brackets on my 82 C10. They worked great with cast iron manifolds and then headers. Neither came anywhere near the bracket or pump. I've used several Alan Grove brackets over the years. They aren't cheap, but are well-engineered and built in the USA. #402L is near...

    Bye Bye Optima

You may be on to something there. But both of the trucks I mentioned along with a 55 Chevy car were not daily drivers. In fact, sometimes they didn't go out to play for weeks or months on end while I had one down for new mods, etc. But still, they never spent an entire winter sleeping like yours.

    Bye Bye Optima

WFarm -- That's a beautiful engine compartment you have there! Probably 1 in 50 that still looks stock like that. I've never understood the Optima craze. I've been using batteries from Sam's Club and Costco since the 1990s. I'd estimate the average lifespan has been around 6-8 years in the...

    Wheel/Tire Opinion

These are 8-inch rally wheels with narrow trim rings and 255-70x15 Cooper Cobras. Just about right, I'd say. On 7-inch wheels, I'd probably use 235-75, which are about the same height. But they wouldn't be low profile, obviously. I personally think 235-60s are too short, unless they're used...

Rear Gear Install for C10 with TH350

My 82 square body had a mild 350, TH350, and 29.5" tires. Call me an exception to the rule, but I thought its 2.73 axle was ideal on the highway, and the engine would still spin the tires in low gear. I now have a 69 C10 with essentially the same engine, trans, and tire height, but with 3.08...

    350 to 292 swap.

Just realized the 292 specs I posted above may not apply to your C65 engine, but they are probably close.

    350 to 292 swap.

    GM lists the following torque specs for 1982 non-California models: 292: 215 lb/ft @ 1600 RPM 305: 240 lb/ft @ 2000 RPM 350: 275 lb/ft @ 1600 RPM (or 250 lb/ft @ 2800 RPM for over 8500 GVWR or HD emission controls) Source...
