    Anti theft devices

It sounds like lots of the ideas rely on a hidden toggle switch. Great, but what if a person gets lazy the one time someone decides to steal your pride, you didn't hit the switch? My comment earlier was in respect to a fob that did that for you. It could be hidden in the dash out of reach and...

    Anti theft devices

I think your idea is good and maybe the best option? For my application though, the vehicle will be left unattended in remote wilderness for extended periods. I can see an alarm helping if parked under your window at night but not in all scenarios.

    Anti theft devices

Have been thinking about adding an electronic immobilizer (Fob) system of some sort to control the ignition, crank and fuel pump circuits on my project. Does anyone have experience with a decent system that won't break the bank? Seems to be a pile of cheep junky looking stuff out there when...

    Rough country trash?

This thread kind of jumped from RC springs to sway bars. Does anyone with the 6" front RC suspension still utilize their sway bar? Curious as I am heading this direction soon.

    LS swap lost oil pressure

Sounds like you have a bad sender. Maybe crap in it from the last failed engine or just age. Also, not sure what you are using for a meter? A lot of digital meters auto range. You have to pay close attention to which range they are in to know what they are actually giving for a reading. Just a...

Any CUCV 24v to 12v Conversions Here?? M1031

It is pretty tough to guess what the previous owner has done. The top bus bar was 24V+ as a CUCV. The fusible link you are referring to, may have came from the second generator for charging the 24V system. Where does it go now? As mentioned, I am a bit away from doing this conversion so take...

    LS swap lost oil pressure

With unknown hours on past service intervals, a bit of sludge would not be a big concern. It's the particles and fluctuating gauge that would for me. As mentioned the pressure is not great but within spec. Aluminum and other bearing material will not stick to the magnet. The filter catches it...

    LS swap lost oil pressure

The filter does not look great to me. What are the particles in it? Paint, aluminum maybe? Normally, you will not find anything with the naked eye, other than what may have been introduced during a sloppy service or oil top up. Possibly mishandling from the previous owner or was the engine...

Here's one for the Holley/Eddy debate...

An interesting topic the influence altitude has on jetting. Maybe not as noticeable in an auto as in a boat, but my experience was a loss of 1 rpm for every 10' of elevation climbed in a jet boat I used to own. It was a 300hp 5.7 in front of a 3 stage Hamilton pump. The principles are similar to...

    Timing is way advanced

Some diesels don't have a hole to pin or a reference mark. Instead of a stop you use a dial indicator but go through the injector hole. Split the before and after.

Any CUCV 24v to 12v Conversions Here?? M1031

I did read the link you posted. You indicated that additional momentary switches were added for 12V start and glow plugs. Have you gone through the parts and electrical diagrams in the TM's they have? That is where I found and identified the 24V relays. I have not opened up my harnesses or...

Any CUCV 24v to 12v Conversions Here?? M1031

Do you still have two batteries in parallel then or are you down to 1? Haven't done the 24 to 12 conversion yet, but will be doing so soon. Truck is currently stripped to the frame, but have pics, notes and the OE harnesses on hand. Am doing the diesel to gas conversion as well. Here's a pic of...

    Basic volt drop test

OK. Sorry if I have derailed this a bit. I know electrical well and have been performing drop tests for years. It's a great test and easy to perform. Even for the DIY guys with little electrical background. I was politely trying to point out that the terms "across the fuse" and "test points on...

That makes sense. I didn't read it that way and don't see any pics for some reason.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying, measuring across the fuse won't tell you anything unless it is blown.

    Blue Print or GM Performance

I was referring to the $3000 in the past 3 year comment. (Over 50%) If memory serves me well, GM discontinued these engines in 2021 and gave out the contract to keep the support (and $$) going. It was a move, the (GMPP) article said, to help focus more on their electric vehicles. I am just...

    Blue Print or GM Performance

It is my understanding that GM no longer builds their new 5.7 crate engines. They have been contracted out to Performance Assembly Solutions. Google them. The engines are still built in the US to GM standards and branded such. I am betting it likely has a lot to do with price increases in the...

    Blue Print or GM Performance

Haven't seen a tbi on a pre-vortec (12 bolt intake). Are you sure it isn't the later vortec (8 bolt intake) engine you want? Probably just a generic pic they chose, but the second pic in the gmperformance link you posted, shows a pic of the (sawtooth head) vortec engine. Weird.

    Holley Sniper EFI help

The ignition coil receives power in both positions. I would contact Holley for their diagrams if you don't have them. Haven't installed one of their kits, but would imagine the fuel pump also needs to be powered in the start and through an oil pressure switch for safety during run.

Replacement electric external fuel pump suggestion?

Welcome to the forum. I grabbed a Holley red along with their external regulator due to online reviews for my build. Going to be wiring it through an oil pressure switch as well. Hopefully it wasn't a bad choice. Following to see what others have had experience with.

    305 to 383

Nice. The TBI donor block I used didn't give me a provision for a mechanical pump. Going with an electric Holley system for carb.
