    1981 El Camino parts runner

Sadly, the original top option then is the LG4. There is that awful, 267 V8 (de-bored 305) that can be in B & Gs of that era too.

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

Looks like you need brackets, but I'm pretty ignorant of the 'W' car rear suspension. I believe the rear strut design was unique to them.

Question for you out there that have run a 292 in a truck

Incidentally, some of the older Ford I6s (not the 300) and the Chrysler Slant 6 only had 4 main bearings. The Chevy 6 (194-292) shares a lot of design (and some actual parts) with the small block, so it is plenty stout.

Question for you out there that have run a 292 in a truck

A 'lump port' kit and cutting the bosses out of the intake ports of the head of the 194-292 I6 are supposed to do wonders for the flow characteristics, which are fairly poor in stock form. I just want efficiency and to get away from the hot soak issues with the original design with modern fuel.

Question for you out there that have run a 292 in a truck

They definitely like fuel. The original GM 1 barrel leaves a lot to be desired. I have a throttle body fuel injection fuel injection nearly completed for mine, to go on an Offenhauser intake. I kind of lost interest with everything I have going on. With so much old stuff around here, I commonly...

    Best r4 compressor brand?

I would love to do the V5 myself in place of the R4, but IIRC, the suction and discharge ports are reversed from the R4. GM says the V5 oil drain plug is only supposed to be 'x' degrees from the 6 o'clock position (bottom), when mounted. I have no idea what would happen long term if inverted.

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

They are called 'belly leakers' on V5s. This wasn't as much of an issue when they were painted, but became a big issue when left bare and the aluminum corrodes. The can be resealed, but I'm not sure that I would, and it would need a new double lip shaft seal while you are there. Unlike the...

My 3rd Car, a FREE 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme

Sounds like a plan. You can put the entire amount of oil required right in the crankcase of the V5 compressor with a clean system. I would use PAG in this case. The only concern is the original accumulator. This has the old XH5 desiccant, which is not forward compatible with newer refrigerants...

"I purchased a GM Performance TBI 350 all stock" Are these roller or flat tappet? I hate to say it, but it almost sounds like a cam going flat.

    Engine Boom Progress

As I've thought about it more, I never would have guessed that an '86 454 in a one ton would have contained the nylon and pot metal wonder. I really thought they were light duty / light duty emissions only.

    Engine Boom Progress

The old nylon coated, pot metal wonder. The shards of nylon jamming in the oil pump and ending up in the galleys, etc., would concern me more than the aluminum. The nylon has destroyed many-a-domestic V8 (and some Buick V6s) after the timing set was replaced after the cam gear failure, if the...

    Charging a new A/C system

You may very well be right. I know that dispensing refrigerant will give you an abnormally high, low side pressure. If you close the tap, you will see an immediate drop. Yours sounds too high though. They do act strangely with low refrigerant levels, but I am highly suspicious of a variable...

    Charging a new A/C system

No more oil, but I did wonder if it possibly just needed more time to allow the refrigerant to enter. Not positive from your description that there was a problem yet (except for the low port issue, Jesse covered that). However, the variable orifice tubes don't have a good reputation.

    Charging a new A/C system

Not a stupid question at all, and commonly misunderstood. Not enough air flow / CFM to move things around. Service ports are at higher points in the system. Some fractional amount (0.xx%) will be lost (think vapor, and out gassing of moisture), but no, it will stay in place. Especially with a...

    Charging a new A/C system

All goes in the compressor. Take the drain plug out and inject it into the hole with the compressor inverted. It is the crankcase of the compressor. I use a 2oz syringe myself. Takes 5 times on a big compressor like an A6.

    1965 Buick Skylark

Dark metallic green with a black vinyl interior. Had PS and an AM radio. The V6 needed timing chains regularly, but it was sold past 250k miles!

Love the '65. My Dad had a '65 Skylark with original buckets seats, 225 V6 and a manual 3 speed on the column!

    Charging a new A/C system

Hopefully, there are some exact instructions with the compressor regarding oil. Some of them can be kind of odd. My Chinese Delphi V5 (was supposed to have been a Delphi Korea unit) was loaded with oil. It said to drain the oil and put back the amount of the system volume specified, of the SAME...

    A/C Discoveries & Problems

"it makes a chittering sound when the clutch is disengaged. Something in that clutch assembly wasn’t adjusted to spec at the factory. Any ideas???" Sounds like what is called 'clutch drag'. They are supposed to be about a 20 thousandths gap (a standard business card works well), but metal...

    A/C Discoveries & Problems

I couldn't recall what the suction seal was called / color, but I could still see the green washer / seal! Would love to know what or if, there was any logic to the seal change.

    A/C Discoveries & Problems

You can see the green seal on my high pressure side. Very familiar with the V5. It does have a drain plug, as it has an oil sump, just like the old A6 compressor. The entire oil charge goes in the sump. They are known for leaking out the front seal, which can be replaced with the double lip...

    A/C Discoveries & Problems

IIRC, I may have not used the suggested 'correct' combination either. I bought some sort of '4 Seizens' kit and used what made the hose block fit evenly. I know i left out the metal inserts.

    A/C Discoveries & Problems

I've wondered what sadistic, crack head at GM came up with this B.S. I had to sort it out when I found the late 90s Delphi service compressor for my Caprice. The sealing O-rings had previously been standardized for years.
