What new tools have you got lately?

Having more money in tools than all your vehicles combined isn't a problem, it's.... necessity. You know, so you can work on said vehicles and such. At least that's what I tell my wife!

Parking brake light always on, except when it isn’t

Yes, if you disconnect the wire to the parking brake switch, the light should go out. The switch grounds out when the brake is applied. If it's still on, it's the proportioning valve. The only time my light came on was from a crushed brake line, but I think other issues can cause it.

    AC temp control wire

Anyone know what the orange wire in the back of the temperature control vacuum switch goes to? Can't find it in the wiring diagram, and it's not shown in my Painless wiring book.

    HHHEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!! Update- problem unsolved again.

Can't help you with the fuel problem, but I will tell you to be careful with those triangle filters. I was messing with my engine and it backfired through the carb. When it did it burnt the element, and the filter element started falling apart from the inside out. I never knew it until the...

    Old Gas Can

That's actually a really nice safety can. Probably was pretty expensive back in the day. That FM diamond is for FM Global, an insurance company and testing service. Anything that's FM approved has been through a more rigorous testing than others. It's a step above UL listing, if you've heard of...

    Wiring Harness journal

Are you using the modern motorized selector switch for your fuel injection? If so, I would use the 87 wiring and selector switch. Don't try to force the new style switch into the rectangle hole on your 77, you'll break the switch (yes, I did that). You will need to make the hole about a 1/4 inch...

How should I solve this starter problem

The starter has the highest amp draw of anything on your truck. IMO you should be running your ground directly to the engine block, then run a ground strap from a different bolt to the frame and cab. Remove any paint under the bolt you're going to use, and I like to use a little dielectric...

    10SI Alternator rebuild

Great write up! One thing I can add for those who do a lot of 4 wheeling is to spray the windings with red insulating varnish. You can get it on e-bay, about $20 last time I got a can. It helps to shed dirt and mud to keep your windings from shorting out. Moto Finish is the brand I normally use

3/4-Ton 2wd Rear Spring Replacement: Advice?

Be prepared to have to cut the front spring hanger bolts. Being you're in the rust belt with me, the bolt likes to rust to the bushing sleeve and is nearly impossible to get out. Sawzall and some good Milwaukee Torch blades do the trick for me. You will probably have to cut the bolt at both...

Look at these 2 steering gear boxes. Whats best.

Whatever box you go with, I hope you report back on how it feels. I would love to know if it actually gets rid of the inch or so play all Saginaw boxes seem to have. Tell us if it's worth the money

Can you run Schaeffer 50W oil in a SM465?

When I had my SM465 rebuilt for the first time in the early 90's the builder told me to us SAE 50 ND. He told me the non detergent oil won't suspend the dirt in the oil. Dirt collects in the bottom of the case. Ran the transmission on the road until 2002 when I started bogging the truck, so it...

    Steering stabilizer removal

There is a better way to get those out, but it's not easier. The best way is to remove the tie rod and lay the mount portion on a solid metal surface, like a vice anvil. Then strike the side of the tie rod over top of the stud. It should pop right out. May take more than one strike. If it's...

77 C30 Power window & Lock wiring issues

You should have a diagram on your relay that looks like the picture below. On this relay 85 and 86 are the coil. You want to put one direction of the switch on 85 and 86 to ground. 30 is called common, it needs to go to one of the wires on the lock solenoid. 87a is normally closed, it goes to...
