    I guess I was assuming that you could get a 9" for around $100 or free like the old days. They are getting hard to find. I am no authority on these things. If you are just going with what you already have, I would have to say the 12 bolt would probably be better.

    D: If you are going to have to do everything to it anyway, maybe start with a 9" FORD and get some axles with Chevy pattern. Thats what we used to use in our race cars, because the 10 bolts weren't as strong, or easy to work on. Just a thought.

    I say just fabricate some, or have some fabricated. Make a couple of pieces of "U" channel that fits over the glass and glue them on, with the latch installed.

    Maybe your throttle shaft holes are worn and need bushed. That is a pretty common problem. It sounds like something in the carburetor is keeping it from idling correctly.

    All that stuff makes a person want to just remove all that stuff and put in a good old 350 with a Edelbrock, Holley and headers. Keep it simple. I guess thats why so many did just that!

    Doesn't the 85 305 have the electronic q jet? I believe that there is a ecm involved in the timing etc... I dont think the distributor has vac advance. Is there an O2 sensor? I would bet that there is not a fuel pump lobe on the cam of the roller 305, so you will have to use an electric fuel pump.
