Factory roof rack install - I don't have the black gaskets, what can I use to make some?

Sweet thanks for the info very helpful. I'm a complete noob so forgive this next question...if I go with the shorter screw in the picture (that's called a sheet metal screw right?) do I need to drill pilot holes first or are they self tapping? How much smaller does the pilot hole need to be?

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

Also this is weird but I have what I think is stock suspension, which is even sagging it appears, and I have 33's on right now that don't rub at all. Is that unusual?

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

Hey Shiftpro thanks for the info!! Did some research based on your recommendation and it appears you are totally right. Rough Country is ROUGH! And that is absolutely not what I want. Looks like the Tuff Country EZ ride would be perfect. Do you think I would be safe to just order the exact...

Oh cool that looks exactly what I am going for. Did you install the rack with sheet metal screws?

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

Oh man thanks for the insight. I was worried about the stiffness with the poly. I can't seem to find rubber...are there rubber kits out there? I drive a ton of washboard dirt roads and increasing the stiffness is NOT something I wanna do. I want this thing to ride like my uncles 1983 Buick...

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

I'm also looking to replace all the bushings with this kit, any thoughts on that? How much do you think a shop would charge to do this? https://www.energysuspensionparts.com/3.4124?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnqH7BRDdARIsACTSAdtjfy6L8zywlzMMfmhY-ahe2j0_7H6_FkUzCrFGORXOliDOmk1U_moaAml6EALw_wcB

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

Damn your truck looks good. Yeah I'm thinking 4inch is the way to go. Specifically this one, it comes with a front steering arm and I will also purchase the recommended sway bar bracket. That should be all I need right...

What lift and tires are best for my 1990 Suburban?

Right now my Suburban has stock suspension, I think at least, and 33 inch tires. Currently I am leaning towards a Rancho 2inch lift (my leaf springs and shocks need replacing anyway so why not add a little ground clearance) and sticking with 33 inch tires. I believe this means I wouldn't need...

Factory roof rack install - I don't have the black gaskets, what can I use to make some?

Recently purchased a factory roof rack for my 1990 Suburban. I have learned from the forum that different years were installed in different ways i.e some years had nut inserts and some years used sheet metal screws. The roof rack uses black plastic (or maybe rubber?) gaskets at the attachment...

The ultimate noob finally gets his dream truck - Hello from Joshua Tree

Thanks man! Yep got the rack on Ebay. Was $250, which isn't an amazing deal but other rack mounting options are equally pricey and I think the factory one looks the coolest. If I had a good junk yard nearby that def would have been my play though.

The ultimate noob finally gets his dream truck - Hello from Joshua Tree

Thanks everyone! I'm so psyched!! Ordered a factory roof rack today, plus a square rack that will go on the roof up front and attach via some gutter mounts I got ebay. Wish me luck on the install!

The ultimate noob finally gets his dream truck - Hello from Joshua Tree

I'm a rock climber from Joshua Tree, CA and I have been dreaming about a square body Suburban for years. The planets finally aligned and I got one last week. It is a 1990 4x4 and it is fuggin awesome! Finally I'm free to explore the desert in confidence and now I can take a bunch of friends...
