What have you done to your square lately??

Spent a good amount of time inquiring about stall converters today. Then it dawned on me to stop by the driveline shop that did my rear end. Rich said he purposefully steers clear of transmissions, but pointed me to a gentleman at Skagit transmissions. I told him my setup and he recommended a...

    Carb Adapter

Lots of good info here. Keep in mind that Edelbrocks use no more than 5-6 psi of fuel pressure. I splurged and bought all the accoutrements from Edelbrock to avoid having to piece everything together. Edelbrock fuel pump (psi set for carb from factory) an AN line/braided hose that threads...

What have you done to your square lately??

Doesn’t *look* that bad. Get that clamp off and then give it a good wiggle. Just depends on how much the crimp created by the clamp wants to hold on. You could try a thin punch/chisel to try to spread the pipe back out, maybe heat it up some too.

What have you done to your square lately??

That’s a great response, I’ll give that a try. A looser converter is on the list as well.

What have you done to your square lately??

The stall is too tight and stock. That’s for sure. Three degrees? Which direction? I called Edelbrock and they told me to put it back to ported timing, and back the advance off to 10-12 initial. Snowing and cold here, no way to test on street for a while. Mostly, I think he was just trying to...

What have you done to your square lately??

True that- but then I got to thinking, a cam is much more than lift- it’s also duration, duration at .050, and just as importantly, overlap. It’s somewhat likely that I’d be able to guess based on lift what cam is in there, but at this point it is what it is, and nothing but me can change it...

If it’s a hydraulic tappet, is there a way to account for the “squish” of the lifter? I’ll check that out.

What have you done to your square lately??

Hey, well, maybe you can shed some light. 355 SBC, about 10:1. Cam unknown, runs about 15-16 mmHg at 750 rpm. Timing is set to 35 total at about 3000, initial is 14 deg. Edelbrock 650 CFM AVS2. 461 60s era Camelhump heads. I bought the truck with the engine already set in and not running...

What have you done to your square lately??

@Redfish think I’ll spray around and double check for vacuum leaks, but it seems unlikely that the one spot it runs lean and everything else is good. Time to go back to the drawing board. There is a procedure that a guy can do to partially decrease air flow to the bleeds- but it’s a little...

What have you done to your square lately??

Well, it’s “not-perfect “ enough that it falls on it’s face until the power mode finally catches up with it.

What have you done to your square lately??

It’s true- the vents seem to let a lot of gas evaporation.

What have you done to your square lately??

Yeah, no power valve on an Edelbrock that I’m aware of.

What have you done to your square lately??

Once my temp was down to a measly 100.8, I stumbled out to the garage for some more carb tuning. Even after adding the .043 (largest) accelerator nozzle, and the most aggressive accelerator pump 1468#, still has the same flat spot off idle. I can see how Edelbrock carbs have left a bad taste in...

Eratic behavior from a 1985 6.2. Requesting help please

Just spitballing here based on what I was told when I was a youngun in high school. I don’t know if these diesels are prone to it, but I know that some of the GM diesels could pull oil past the valve seals. The fact that it’s surging upon deceleration brought that to the front of my mind. Feel...

What have you done to your square lately??

I’m still learning for sure. I went up on the primaries one step then another. Resulted in being too rich everywhere. So I backed off a step where everything is good except for the lean spot off idle- ordered a larger accelerator nozzle and hopefully that will do the trick. The AFR gauge is...

    What’s the plan these days?

What have you done to your square lately??

Overall, the numbers on the Edelbrock (as I’ve learned and watched the AFR) aren’t awful, needs to be fatter on part throttle and leaner at WOT. I switched to a .104 jet and a .073/.037 metering rod, and went from a .098 secondary jet to a .095. Inching in the right direction, but I’ll need to...

    Emissions question

For sure, good info. The guy who told me about the mileage was probably wrong, or I just don’t remember correctly. When I bought my truck, the guy asked me what I wanted to list as selling price- I squirmed a bit and asked him what he was comfortable with. I think he wrote down $1000 and told...
