Hunting idle caused by bad TPS

Don't know. However the Tech 1 does have more capability/data than the snap on red brick on GM vehicles. Biggest problem with either of those is the condition of the leads.

Hunting idle caused by bad TPS

Know there are other options but a red brick or Tech 1 scanner is something to consider buying. They are obsolete and relatively cheap today.

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

When we had emissions checks in our area EPA supplied a small booklet that listed all required original equipment. Something similar should have been provided to inspectors in other states.

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

GM Heritage shows no cats on all engines above 8600 GVW for 86 on page 39 both California and US. Couldn't link/paste the page. With respect to light duty, until a vehicle reaches the 14-15k GVW all are considered "light duty". However, during that period emissions equipment in some cases was...

Towing with my 86.... hints, tips, essentials?

Agree with above, tranny can't be too cool when towing. Although might be excessive I have 2 coolers in series after the radiator cooler with a temp gauge. On a warm [not hot] day will exceed 200 degrees pulling a moderate grade. This is a tow truck. Total weight in tow is about the same as...

Check for power at starter larger one should have constant battery power, smaller wire close to block [purple] only has power in start position.

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

For 1980 through 1986, the same models as those for '79 used cats. However, a new C6P heavy duty option was offered for C/K 20/25 models which provided an 8,600 lb suspension package. These new, heavier 3/4 tons cleared the 8,500 lb limit, and so did not use converters during this time period...

    Brake Issue

Friction material varies between manufacturers. If a temp gun is available it might help narrow down where the problem is. Sounds like there may be more than 1 issue. Ran into an odd brake problem recently. Rear backing plates were worn on the rubbing block enough to stick the shoes. Only...

exhaust question, heat riser valve connections

very possible need to match. Picture of heat riser would help.

exhaust question, heat riser valve connections

3 manifolds, all with different connection to heat riser or header pipe. Manifold on left of first picture is new offshore. So poorly cast I was unable to install it.

exhaust question, heat riser valve connections

Earlier small blocks use a flange on the header pipe, no gasket. Not a great design. Engine movement and frame twist would sometimes loosen the joint. There is also the style with a flat manifold surface, gasket, heat riser, header pipe with flange. I don't believe style pictured will work with...

    Lifter tick?

If style with a hose on it remove the end piece. Any exhaust leak will be quite noticeable as air passes by the end of the open hose.

    Lifter tick?

If you suspect exhaust leak, get a stethoscope. They are very inexpensive at HF. Bad fuel pumps or worn push rods can sometimes sound like a loose lifter. When covers are off watch for similar rocker movement between cylinders. Worn valve train is another possibility. If equipped, are you...

Running unrebuilt original heads? Might need lead substitute above 8500gvw

Convertors were on lighter duty trucks. Probably the same head but lead would kill cats. In the past I have seen several early heads with extreme valve recession. Almost makes economic sense to buy aftermarket aluminum heads rather than spend money making original heads compatible with unleaded...

    '77 C10 350/TH350 ignition problem

At 6:43 red greased area on top may be holding it. Part of tilt assembly. Should be able to release with the tilt lever. Have the tilt pins on the side removed? Lock and key should be out to release and allow gear for the rack to turn. There are differences between the early and later...

87 v10 transmission and ac compressor swaps

87 v10 transmission and ac compressor swaps

is the compressor pully seized or the compressor itself? If it had an internal failure there will be metal tossed throughout the system. Will require flushing and possibly more replacement parts.

73 Blazer 350 spark plug stuck

If the porcelain can be blown out as suggested I would try to drill and tap whats left provided there is access. Use grease on the bit and tap to reduce metal entering the cylinder. Another possibility is a bolt extractor socket for removing rounded nuts. Doubt it will work but worth a try.

    Engine mount, old or new?

I usually replaced the mounts. Many times upper bracket attached to the block will be laying hard against the cross member or frame. Even if it isn't will the old mount last as long as the replacement engine? Anyone who has replaced this style mount [engine installed] will attest they are no...
