The cats must be up to temp before they operate (change HC and CO to H2O and CO2) and normal operating temp also ensures the choke is fully open, and a fully warmed up engine does a better job of burning all the fuel it can. Gil, Way late to this party but I hope it helps. I recall that the bellhousing bolts were always 3/8-16 but not sure now. Maybe they are close enough as to be interchangeable.
