Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

PS, the pictures of the maroon/burgundy 73 K10 in my gallery, is not the truck in question.. That's a truck I had like 30 years ago (and wish I still had).. Had some pictures of this truck I thought, but they're somewhere else I guess.. I need to go to my build thread and steal some from...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

When I established my account here, that's all I had to go on too.. But when I rewired the truck I quickly found out that there was something fishy going on, because none of the 73 schematics matched what I was seeing.. Then I found a different VIN plate on the dash than what is on the door...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

Good news is, the nuts that held the MC on are the same ones I need to finish mounting the booster bracket.. So now I have a nut to take with me...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

Ahhh.. Where are you? I just talked to the auto parts store, and a brand new MC with lifetime warranty for a '79 is about 38 bucks plus the guvna's cut... He said if I bring the MC from the 88 down, we can make sure I get one that fits the same push rod and is for a chevy truck with...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

Shipping from wherever you are is probably as much as a reman master cylinder if not more... and no UPS/FedEx truck is even gonna 'try' to get in here right now anyway.. Thanks for the offer.. I'll keep it in mind as plan B if plan A fails... I'm gonna try to get a reman master cylinder and...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

I've been doing some reading since last night.. and this master cylinder will cause me problems even if I get it working... It's made for a disc/disc vehicle and I have a disc/drum vehicle... (residual valves, piston travel required, etc.) .... Just not gonna work.. So, I'm gonna scrape...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

Ha! I have a combination wrench, a flex combination ratchet end wrench, etc.. It's was a serious SOB.. and the fact that the middle two are 'bolts' that have to be passed through the brake pedal bracket on the inside of the cab out through the booster mounting bracket makes it that much...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

It wasn't pushing fluid out of the front outlet 'without the lines connected' (ie bench bleeding style), so the issue can't be the proportioning valve.. It wasn't involved at all... Interesting video though.. Learned a few things.. Anyone know where to get that little part for bleeding the...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

That's essentially what I did, only on the truck.. I don't have a vise, so using the truck as one is my only way... So which one do I get? I know the cab isn't a 73.. I 'think' it might be from a 79 1 ton farm truck.. Bed, chassis, engine, cab, transmission, all from different vehicles.. I...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

Thanks man.. 10mm is what I was guessing, but wasn't sure if there was a 9mm or something... But it's not like I can take the truck with me to try them out in the parking lot... Weird that none of the bolt charts even list 15mm head size.. but yet they make the socket and wrenches... They...

Bolt size confusion and stuck master cylinder

So, I've been driving around with a leaky master cylinder for 2 years since I bought and resurrected this old square body... I grabbed a power brake booster and master cylinder off a junked 88 suburban/tahoe about the same time I got this truck and it's been sitting in a bucket all this time...

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

Posi/limited slip by any chance? I do want to put that on the truck at some point (same with my chevy van if I can ever figure out how to get cat converters for it that are affordable enough for the state to allow me to drive it again)

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

I have only been looking at how many pounds they can carry.. The local tire stores have only been able to offer me up to 2350 per tire... 2,600 might do it.. Maybe I'll look on line further for something I can buy and have installed locally.. I have no idea how I could weigh my truck around...

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

Not really planning on carry 'that' much load.. The problem I am faced with is that when I'm carrying a significant load, the passenger load rated tires available to me balloon out, exposing the sidewalls to sharp rocks, even the small ones (2 inch) that the logging companies like to put on the...

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

If I found a viable solution for the right price, I could always buy a couple steel wheels from the junk yard for the tires and then just switch them out when I go get wood.. The front isn't really an issue, just the rear... But I thought the taller tires that 16s would allow might be nicer...

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

Ho Lee Chit! And his tires don't look anywhere near as squashed as mine do with just 3/4 cord.. How he do dat?

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

That won't happen.. Not at the speeds I'm going..

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

I rely on firewood to heat my home in the winter.. I have to go out into the wilderness to get it... When the wood is green, it's heavy.. A huge amount of the load is over the rear axle.. I can add helper springs, but there really aren't any truck tires for 15" rims... The last thing I want...

1 ton wheels on 1/2 ton truck?

Were there ever any stock 16" or 16.5" wheels made that fit on 1/2 ton hubs? I need something that accepts tires with higher load ratings than are available for the 15" 5 lug wheels... Hoping to find them used or at the junk yard, but need to have an idea of what vehicles came with them (if...

    Which Gaskets?

Also, I'm wondering that if I change out the timing chain/cover, do I really even need to change the oil pan gasket and rear seal? I am kinda operating on the assumption that all three gaskets operate as a system... Or can the TC cover be removed, and just the front crank bearing cap gasket be...

    where to route wiring..

Bought some adhesive backed sound mats, and ordered a new MIP floor mat from LMC (comes with 3/8" insulation attached) I need to run some wires under the floor mat to the back of the cab (security/sound/etc.).. Should I rout them under the adhesive backed sound mats or between the mats and the...

    Which Gaskets?

About to order gaskets for the oil pan and valve covers.. Mainly I will likely be pulling the timing chain cover and replacing the seal/gaskets, possibly replacing the timing chain and gears... I can order the cork gaskets, with separate front and back rubber crank gaskets, or they have these...
