    rebuilt sbc Oil pressure

Excessive clearance in camshaft bearings can definitely cause a lower than normal oil pressure reading.

High Oil Pressure and Leaking After Oil Change

The oil pressure sending unit is at the back of the engine block behind the distributor. If the diaphragm in the sending unit fails, it will leak down the back of the block and drip out of the flywheel inspection cover similar to a rear main seal. This could explain the increase in the oil leak...

Daughters ‘87 needs to ride smooth.

My 1986 C10 Silverado rides as smooth and quiet as any passenger car. Tires make a huge difference in ride quality. I have 2 sets of wheels and tires that I run on the truck. I have the original 15"× 8" Rally wheels with 235/75 -15 all season radials and I have a set of 225/50 -20 on aftermarket...

Swapping out OEM distributor with HEI distributor

I had a similar situation with my 1986 C10. It was originally a California truck with a 305 that had ESC and CCC (computer controlled carburetor). The previous owner dropped in a crate 350 and kept the original distributor, carburetor and 700R4 transmission. It ran okay, but nothing like my 1976...

Spark plug gap closed fresh rebuild

A spark timing issue is not going to cause that. That's impact damage. The only thing that's going to impact a sparkplug electrode is the piston or something floating around in the cylinder. If you didn't drop that sparkplug before installation then there's a mechanical issue with that cylinder.

    No power at temp gauge

With key on you should have battery voltage at the sending unit wire at the sending unit. If you ground the sending unit wire and the gage goes to full hot, then the wiring circuit is good. The sending unit controls the ground resistance. Full resistance, (cold), no resistance (hot). Sounds like...

Whirling Sound While AC is Turned On, Matches Up With RPM

If it only occurs with the AC compressor running then most likely it an AC compressor issue. It could be an internal problem with the compressor or it could be an external problem with the AC clutch bearing. You can use a mechanics stethoscope to listen to the compressor. Turn off the AC and see...

Starter problems after doing 5 speed swap

Seeing as how ther are only 2 components in this issue, the starter and the flywheel, and since the starter is bolted to the block and can not be moved forward or rearward, the problem has to be the flywheel. That's the only component that's new in the starting situation. I've never seen a...

Rearend gear ratios 1980-1987 most common

    My 1986 C10, 350/700R4 has a 3.08. My 1976 C10, 350/T350 had a 3.73.

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

I used to repair 1 or 2 differentials a week at the dealership. Most times, if the ring gear and drive pinion gear look okay and it's not making noise on straight ahead driving when accelerating, coasting and decelerating, the bearings should be fine and you should be able to get away with just...

83 C10 steers decent to left but half as much to the right?

That would be the first thing I would look at. I've seen that happen on other applications. Visually inspect the tie rod ends to make sure there is an equal amount of threads showing on each side. Then with the steering wheel, count the number of turns from lock to lock then go back half way...
