    Dipstick lengths

If I added a larger capacity pan, dipstick should be the same size, right? I had the stock size for the 350 (5 quarts required) and got a new pan that says it's 1 quart larger, wondering if the dip stick is still accurate.

Free: auto shift indicator + delco knobs

Sorry, I know absolutely nothing about the automatic transmission, but I think it came from an 87 or 88 auto 4wd burb (don't remember the tonnage). There are 2 screws that attach it to the cluster, but I don't have those anymore - hopefully you still have yours. Now who gets it? I don't want...

Looking for a small lift and decent ride

You reach a limit of smoothness with a solid front axle and especially with leaf springs in the front - that makes a huge difference on how smooth of a ride you will ever be able to get, even with soft shocks. Just know that going in, so you won't be disappointed...

Cleaning out the garage today, I came across these two pieces that I have no use for. If anybody wants them, just pay shipping, otherwise I'm throwing them out. Automatic shift indicator: AC Delco radio knobs:

Alignment + Spindle shims + new leafs

I just bought and installed new rancho RS9000XL shocks and they are good for 0"-2" - I can tell my front leafs especially are sagged quite a bit because the shocks and the boots look really compressed... so some new springs should get that back to normal. I can't find any 1", 1.5", or 2.0"...

Alignment + Spindle shims + new leafs

Thanks for the info, that's what I thought might be the case... For the leaf springs, I think the rears are okay for now, but the fronts are sagging and the bushing torn so I'm thinking of replacing with new ones. What's a good front leaf spring/brand to buy? I'm looking at keeping stock...

Alignment + Spindle shims + new leafs

My burb pulls to the right a bit. I took it to get alignment checked after putting some new tires on, and they said it would need a shim behind the spindle to correct the camber. How can this be? Did something get bent or what? Or a manufacturing error? It did the same thing before x4 ball...

What to do? Repair shop f'ed up...

Good news! Shop was very honest and stood behind their work 100%, they made the necessary repairs, and also replaced my tires! Still a bit of headache that should have never happened in the first place, but glad they made it up to me. (turned out to be poor workmanship from a rookie mechanic...

    Suburban Barn Door Interior Trim

Hey Loy, so sorry, but I already gave them to somebody else who needed them. I'll be on the lookout next time I'm at the yards. Was this color/style I posted above the exact one you needed? Bucket is right, the red ones are not as common, but I'll keep checking and if I come across any I'll let...

    87 350 TBI High Idle

And as for the fan sounding loud, you more than likely need a new fan clutch - an excessive roar is one of the signs the fan clutch is bad. Once everything is warmed up, the fan sound should drop, it's normal for the fan to sound louder when starting up cold, but should be relatively quiet at...

    87 350 TBI High Idle

Don't worry about that hose coming from the air cleaner - that hose just directs warm air from the exhaust manifold into the air intake to bring the engine up to operating temp faster, and it won't cause a vacuum leak or idle issues. Many trucks this old have long lost that tube, your truck will...

What to do? Repair shop f'ed up...

Thanks bucket, that's what I plan on doing, they did a great job on the diff, that's what they're know for, but I think they just got hasty since it was at the end of the day and they wanted to finish the rest of it on time. I'll have them fix those hubs, and would really like new tires, the...

What to do? Repair shop f'ed up...

This is why I do all the work on my vehicles myself, I just can't trust people because they're not going to put the same effort and care into my vehicle that I would. The old saying is true, if you want it done right, do it yourself. This would have never happened if I had just done the work...

    1/2 ton to 3/4 ton???

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to alter driveshaft length too, unless you have the shafts from the K20. Also, how complete are the axles? Drum to drum? You'll need the 3/4 ton 8-lug wheels too...

Suburban stock spare tire location tire size

Yep, you're right, it doesn't fit... I just can't get it far back enough to lock the seat into place. I guess it's time to start looking for a swing out spare tire carrier!

    U Joint/Driveshaft, How Screwed am I?

Brought it in to a driveshaft shop, they welded on a new piece, and I put in both new u joints as well. This made a huge difference in throttle response - no more clunking.

    Delco Radio Shaft Nuts

I went to hardware store, but they didn't have the right size, it is a not-so-common nut size of 7/16-28 I believe (have not measured to confirm). But, I went by a junkyard and found a few squares with delco factory radios in them and grabbed a pair of nuts, and they do have 2 sets of nuts: one...

    Delco Radio Shaft Nuts

I was hoping someone would know because I already have it installed and getting that thing in and out is a real pain, and you can't unscrew those nuts with it back there... I found nuts for shaft-style radios from another gm vehicle I found in jy, but I guess those nuts are not standardized. Do...

    Delco Radio Shaft Nuts

Quick question on the AC delco radio that came on these trucks. The shaft nuts that attach the radio to the metal dash, are there one or two sets of these? Is there one that attaches the shaft to the radio itself, and then another one that sandwiches the metal? Or just one nut? I can't...
