    Time for a new exhaust

Thanks for talking some sense into me, I think I'm going to put together my own system instead of going to a shop, especially since I'm just replacing the stock setup and not going with a system that needs more fabrication involved. I'm sticking with the 3" stock single exhaust style, that's...

It sure looks like it! I'm not sure, but I don't think that's stock.

    Time for a new exhaust

As you can see, I need a new exhaust system. Holes everywhere, hangers cracked, and it still has the old pellet-style cat. I stopped by a local shop, who quoted me $650 for a new system after the y pipe back. That includes a new "modern" cat, a flowmaster 40 series muffler, and tailpipe, all...

What have you done to your square lately??

I will have to look into that. Does that additional crossmember serve just as a mounting point for the skid plate? Or does the transfer case mount to it as well? My transfer case (the np208, I see you have the 205) has holes tapped for something, is that what they're for?

What have you done to your square lately??

Wait, there's supposed to be a transfer case mount?? Mine's just floating there, just held up by the transmission, which has it's own crossmember/mount. Do you have a separate crossmember for the transfer case? Is it like a skid plate for the transfer case?

Engine Dies after long downhill run

Haven't gotten around to diagnosing yet, but that could be it too. It would make sense: the valve would be completed closed for a prolonged period of time and then when the rpms drop down it fails to open back up and the engine dies?

Does the evaporator ever need to be flushed? Or just the condenser?

Engine Dies after long downhill run

Thanks for the info! I will get my vacuum gauge out and get a reading. It probably won't be up by 18" Hg since I'm up at around 6k elevation, and the engine is not that new, but would be good to see how everything else is running (ignition, valves, etc.). I will check out electrical...

Engine Dies after long downhill run

Thanks Jesse, I did not know codes were stored. How long do they stay there? Check engine light is no longer on, but it still has a memory to store codes? I went out, checked the codes and got these 3: 12 = (just means I'm in diagnostic mode) 24 = vehicle speed sensor (vss) or circuit...

Engine Dies after long downhill run

Check engine light came on a couple times when going above 11,500 but I didn't have a chance to check the code with counting the light flashes. Light went off after going lower. I will give that IAC and the MAP sensor a look. I have not gotten into the sensors on this thing yet... Also...

Engine Dies after long downhill run

Hey guys, wondering if anyone has experienced this before and if anybody has an idea of what could be causing this... After coasting in a lower gear going down hill (i.e. engine braking) the engine dies after putting it into neutral. This has happened a few times and all times at the same...

Installing Tach in a Non-Ghetto Way?

Dave's right, you won't lose the 4WD light. Depending on your cluster you'll just lose seat belt and possibly parking brake. I always wear my seatbelt, so didn't mind loosing that, but I do like having the parking brake warning light, so I relocated to the lower left: The two warning...

    SM465 Vent/Breather Tube?

I see, that's the style found on my transfer case. I have the last year of the cast iron top cover ('87). It was in 1988 thru 91 that they switched to an aluminum top cover.

    SM465 Vent/Breather Tube?

Thanks Geb, great channel! I will definitely be referencing your videos, I have been meaning to do that shfiter slop fix. You have a great shop too btw. And if anybody's wondering, the vent for the sm465 is just a little cap pressed in to the top of the case - it doesn't have a regular pipe...

    Jump AC compressor

Chengy! You are the troubleshooting master! I got my feeler gauge and went to the truck, but when I opened the hood, I quickly realized that was not going to be necessary... Look at that gap! So I jumped the coil and pushed the clutch in and "click" - the hub plate snapped right up to...

    SM465 Vent/Breather Tube?

Does the sm465 have a vent tube? I checked around the top and sides of the case, but couldn't find any tubes coming off it. It's pretty dirty/muddy down there so maybe I just missed it? Or does it just vent from the top where the shifter is? I have gone through and elongated the breather tubes...

    Jump AC compressor

    1) I didn't see a switch on the back of the compressor, so I guess I don't have an A-6 comp. 2) I have full continuity to ground at the black ground wire. 3) Resistance across was 3.9 ohms (is this still a good reading for an R4 compressor?) So mechanical issue now? Is this something I could...

    Jump AC compressor

Thanks Chengny, I have not done this yet, and it is all very valuable information for me, so thanks for commenting! I will get that multimeter back out and see what's up. However, I believe I have an R4 compressor, but not sure, and if not, would it still have an overheat switch (I will check...

    Jump AC compressor

Control switch jumped, I'm getting 12V, and still no compressor engagement. I guess the compressor is shot... (well the clutch anyways). I even tried applying 12V to the compressor directly, and nothing happened, no click, nothing. Time for a new compressor, but which one to get? Is there a...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thought I'd share this. I added 2 extra courtesy lights. I was able to splice into the original single floor light that's in the middle, and added additional lights on each side. Power is orange, then a ground (white) from each side to trigger the door ajar light to ground (left and right side...

GM Floor mats: NOS or used

They are very hard/impossible to find, no NOS out there, no used on ebay, nothing! I was able to get them from a member here, they are used and brittle/cracking, but they get the job done and look good, returns that factory/stock look. I did try a repro version from classic industries...

    Scottsdale suburban headliner trim

Last call on these - I hate to have to throw them out, but I just don't have the space to store them, plus moving soon and don't want the clutter. I sort of knew there wouldn't be much interest in these, since most burbs don't have them, but by the same argument it could come in handy for...

    Factory dual battery wiring

I'm not a wiring expert, but looking at that wiring diagram, it doesn't look like the best way to wire dual batteries. I know it'll be easier to use the factory wiring, and the stuff you have (although quite thin gauge) looks like it's in great condition! However, if you're going to be really in...
