Transfer Case Crossmembers & Skid Plates

I think it can fit in a large flat rate box from USPS, and it would be $18.75 to 77802, but I need to measure first to confirm.

Transfer Case Crossmembers & Skid Plates

Is there a thread on the different crossmembers that were used? Through the years, with what transmissions, the different GVWR's, C vs K, etc.

Transfer Case Crossmembers & Skid Plates

I picked up a transfer case skid plate that I thought would fit, and went through all the trouble of cracking the bolts, and bringing it home, scrubbing it down to get all the dirt off, and then find out it doesn't fit... It came from an 80s suburban. I guess there are different transmission...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

I have the NP208 transfer case, so it's not as bulletproof as the 205 that everybody talks about. I believe it's a chain-driven tcase, it takes ATF, and I just replaced that fluid not too long ago, and found that the old fluid looked just fine. I'm going to try your suggestion, getting all 4...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

Good memory Georgeb! That's true about the shop work, it could be related. First I've heard of the lithium grease for that, and you could be on to something since it was very cold the last time I was out with it (low teens to single digits). I've only used white lithium for greasing springs and...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

I hope it's not a stretched chain, I was reading up on that and those symptoms sound a lot like mine, but hopefully it's just the hubs and now I get to install an upgrade! I will check the driveshaft, but I recently had a new slip yoke welded on, and with an upgraded spline style (16 instead...

    How many O2 Sensor are on a 350 Tbi ? 87 k5 blazer

I have a stock 350 TBI, it is just one O2 sensor, found in the driver's side exhaust manifold. There is just one wire, which I guess is an old design, so no heater to get it up to temp faster so it can start reading accurately.

    Suburban rear heat

Here, take a look how I did mine: http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showpost.php?p=303329&postcount=34 From the factory service manual: The switch: You can see mine here again in black. After a few camping trips, the enclosure has cracked a bit more (was already a bit broken)...

Bad hubs or transfer case? How to tell.

Having major trouble with 4wd... When applying load, uphill for example, and only in 4wd (hi or lo) with manual hubs locked of course, there's this buckling feeling like something is slipping and then catching. It feels like it's coming from the front end, possibly the hubs not fully engaged...

What manual hubs are you running?

Holy crap, you weren't kidding, those Yukon hubs are expensive, they go for $357!!! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/yga-29096 Is it worth it? Anybody running these?

Safe load for suburban stock rack

I checked and those chrome strips along the roof are secured with some solid torx screws. I remember when I had the headliner out I could see them coming through. I also took a picture of that hole in the roof I was talking about. Anybody know what this is for? When I had the rear...

Safe load for suburban stock rack

I take that back, Smittybilt makes one that can be that size, but it gets expensive, around 700 bucks. I'm hoping the quote I get on a custom made one from a small shop will be less than half that amount and be a better fit/look I'm going for.

Safe load for suburban stock rack

I found a local fabrication guy that does roof racks, I think I'm going to go that route since I can't find any racks of that size anywhere (new or used). Going for about 8.5 feet I'm guessing, with a little overhang past where the factory rack reaches up to the front. Maybe some brackets for...

Safe load for suburban stock rack

I have to double check, but I believe they are screws that go through the roof.

Safe load for suburban stock rack

Maybe I don't have a factory roof rack then, but mine can slide along a channel and can be positioned however you like up and down the length of the side bars:

Safe load for suburban stock rack

I tried looking for a Con-Ferr rack, but looks like they haven't been made by the company in a while since they have since gone out of business. Even very slim pickings on craiglist too, and the people that have them, are going to be keeping them because it sounds like they'll outlast the...

Wow! Both those hitch carriers look pretty sweet.

Safe load for suburban stock rack

Nice! This looks really good, and exactly what I need to do - I was concerned about drilling the roof for a new rack, and also don't like the rubbing that would result if putting loads directly on the roof. Did you remove the stock cross bars to fit that rack? What basket/tray is that? I want a...

Thermostat seems to be working overtime

What temp is your thermostat rated for? I had a stock 195F, but went with a 205F and it does better now in cold weather when the cooling from the radiator becomes too much due to the cold air. I used to have heat loss that affected the heater core's performance when traveling down hill for...

Safe load for suburban stock rack

What is the suburban factory roof rack (and roof) rated for in terms of load bearing? (I have an 87 suburban with the newer stock rack, I have seen the older (73-80?) version of the roof rack is a bit different.) How about if not mounted to the rails, but I am planning to put some storage...

i dont know how 4 wheel drive works

Is it recommended for a part time transfer case like the NP208 with manual hubs to also put into 4hi every once and a while to lubricate the transfer case and front diff?

    Finally got it painted!

When you had this done, were the doors, tailgate, hood, front clip, bed, etc. removed and then body-worked and sprayed separately? I'm also looking to repaint and wondering if this is necessary for a real top notch job.

    Stock Exhaust R & R - Suburban

I couldn't tell from your pictures, but did you end up using that bracket with the two nuts that's welded to the muffler pipe? What does that screw into? And where can I find the stock hanger hardware? I'm doing a stock exhaust replacement too like you did (with the same exact parts). Your...

    Time for a new exhaust

Parts are on the way! I got band clamps to seal the lap joints. I took another look at the current exhaust and I believe the drooping Y-pipe is related to that broken rebar hanger. I'm going to try and find a stock hanger in a jy and see if I can clamp that on. I want to see how tight it pulls...

    Time for a new exhaust

2/3 hangers are good and I will try to reuse them. The 3rd rebar hanger I will see if the shop can re-weld it for me - I'd like to keep that as a memento from the original owner.
