speed related Vibration (approx 55-75) seeking opinions

Yeah I've still got this issue. Experience it every day back/forth to work. Never really changes. I've had 101 other projects on my hands (see my TH350 thread) so this has been a lower priority. @shiftpro I've got the same setup. 454/TH400 with 4:10 gears, so at 70mph that old drivetrain sure...

speed related Vibration (approx 55-75) seeking opinions

Yup, you pretty much summed up right where I am at. Its a doozie for sure. My only other thought was maaaaaybe the harmonic balancer is dying. My vibration feels like a buzzing. I get up to 45 and I get vibration, it stops through 60 or so, then 65 and I get a buzzzzz..... buzzzzz.....buzzzzz...

Holy moly! Thats awesome! I've been wanting to use newer-style lug covers on the dooley but haven't been able to figure out the lugnut issue. I guess this takes care of it! SWEET

    454 Headers

Damn, where can I get a set of those? I like the white look a lot, and that industrial look is spot on! Honestly though, that's not a bad idea for fabbing up custom headers rather than the special high $$ kits you can get. What is that, $15 in PVC? Custom fit it with the fittings then fab it up...

speed related Vibration (approx 55-75) seeking opinions

I'd like to know this too. I have a similar vibration and had the shaft rebuilt with new u-joints and carrier. When I went to re-install I did wonder about those slots. Maybe @chengny has something up his sleeve? He always seems to have those hard-to-find procedures...

    moog control arm question

What is so wrong with the control arms? Would it just be better to rebuild existing or something?

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Got the new cable installed, as well as a new shifter. The old one was just way too sloppy. The new one is for a 700r4, but it seems to be working. Anyway I got to drive it today. It definitely shifts, although it seems to prefer manual shifting. Auto is ok, but it chattered in and out of 3rd a...

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Well that explains a whole lot. The damn nut inside the pan that holds the rooster tail on the shift shaft was loose. How the hell did I do that? It was an easy fix, at least until I proceeded to break the end off my nice new shift cable... So that's another $22 down the tubes. New cable will be...

    Heater control lever fix

Well done. I need to do this on my blower lever. I've been flipping the bare metal arm and its getting annoying. Nice write-up!

    SOB’s Trailer Thieves !!!

Isnt that the kind of thing that ends up getting you sued? Like the idea of a thief breaking into your house and stepping on the bear trap in your living room and making YOU pay for damages?

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Got the trans back in and everything hooked back up yesterday. The job went smoothly, well at least until a 2.5" wolf spider strolled up next to me while I was under the car. Oh and it had BABIES ON ITS BACK. Of course I did not know this until I smacked it with a 1x4 and BABIES EVERYWHERE. Few...

    Door speaker wiring

I thought you could not mount speakers in the door because the window would hit them inside? I was expecting to have to use some sort of spacer to cure this. Is it really this easy?

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Ok good to know. When I took them out of the package and saw that I went WOAH! Cool, so that means I can keep going on the rebuild tonight. Hoping to get all the way through the pump tonight, then work on the valve body tomorrow. If I get SUPER lucky, I might be able to work towards...

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

After some additional research I found that the "cracking" I saw must be typical of these parts. Below is an image taken from an entirely different eBay listing showing the issue that I found. Look at the tangs where they bend inward. See how they seem to be cracked? In metal work I always...

    Wheel brg tightness??? 91 dually

Usually when I do wheel bearings I tighten them until they drag, then give them about 1 extra turn past that. It should say in any service/chilton/haynes manual specifically what to do.

    moog control arm question

Man I want/need to do this on my dooley. I don't have an answer to your question, but please post up your opinion of the Moog arms. That's what I was planning on getting.

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Piston checked good. Put about 40psi behind it and up she popped. Held until I released the pressure. No hissing. So on I forged. Got the new rollerized ring gear installed, five new clutches, 5 4L60E "Turbolator" steels, and the new 4L60E center support. I was unable to measure the clutch pack...

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

I was gentle... Sorta. The Jeff Sessions instructions said you could gently hammer it down to get it it seated. I did my best to do that. I figured because the seals were flat seals, as opposed to lip type, that they were just stiff in the bore. I'll check with air this evening and make sure...

    Pusher fan(s)

Just a thought. Based on the positioning of the fan, I have to wonder if GM was trying to cool the transmission, more so than the engine? The fan was placed right in front of the internal tranny cooler. Maybe it was for towing etc?

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

New case bushing is in. I ended up using a big-ass hub nut socket (backwards, teeth up) with about 2 feet of socket extensions as a driver to drive it flush, then used the bent new bushing (don't ask) to drive it down far enough to clear the new torrington bearing. I have no real way to check...

Recommendations? Stainless braided front brake hoses

I went with the Russell brake hoses on both the dooley and my Camaro. They seem to be of pretty good quality. I've had the set on the dooley for about 4 years now with no issues. Price was decent (Amazon was the cheapest I think, around $60 shipped IRC). Check them out.

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

As promised, here is some more carnage! I think I may have figured out the biggest mistake the previous builder made. Based on the marks in the case, and the below pictures of the output case bushing, I am thinking the builder forgot to pilot the bushing down a bit to clear the "ears" on the...
