No, no, no! I meant a stock REPLACEMENT. lol. After what I found in that pan I'm gonna clean every single part of that trans. I ended up going with a Dacco reman oem unit. Stock 1200-1400 stall. Should be here today actually. RockAuto had it for about $60 shipped after a core return. I also...

    Old Detroit w/blower

I've had wet dreams over a 6-71 in a square for a long long time. They just sing. Even a 4-71 or even the little 4-53 would be fun as hell too!

How to make a daily driver?

x3 Any of these trucks can be a daily driver. You just have to take care of them and don't beat on them. I've been daily driving my 86 dooley for 4 years with only a couple minor hickups (the biggest being the trans letting go this week). Expect to need to do little things from time to time...

Ok. You are the second person to say that. I guess I'll stick with the stock 3-bolt converter @ 1200-1400. Easy peasy.

Engine is bone stock. Stock cam, stock intake, stock carb. May go to an "RV" cam and a performer intake next year. I don't know stock cam specs unfortunately. Gears are 4.10s. Running 235/85R16 31.7" tires. Mostly a daily driver, although I want to be able to tow if necessary. Does that...

Yes, there are two different bolt patterns. I think the TH400 converters use an 11.5" (approx) pattern while the TH350 uses a 10.75" (approx) pattern. I had to deal with this when I was trying to put a TH350 behind a 454 in my Camaro. Summit sells a real nice flexplate that has both bolt...

    Well I'm phukd. Th400 lost 3rd

Well right now I'm looking at 2 different converters, both stock remans from Dacco. The first is a TH400 model with a 1200-1400 stall, the other is a TH350 model with a 1700-1900 stall. Thoughts on going to a slightly higher stall? Price is about the same on RockAuto. About $60 after core return...

What stall should I be looking at in a converter? The truck is a basically-stock 454 dually with 4.10s out back. 2wd. Would 2000 be too high? I'm trying to find a cheapie converter, but they get expensive fast when you drop below 2000.

I was curious about that. I know you can do some internal modifications, but how would they interact with a shift kit like the one from Transgo? Check out the attached PDF I made of an old Jake's Performance tech article.

That's my plan. The Transgo 400-1-2 kit is pretty cheap on eBay. Most places list it for $90+, eBay has it for $69.

Ok, just to be clear - I've never dug into a transmission before. So bear with me... Looking at transmissionpartsUSA, this is what I am thinking: 46001HD TH400 Transmission heavy duty master rebuild kit - $119.74 46995HP TH400 4L80E Kevlar lined front band. - $11.52 46999A TH400 4L80E...

You talking about the ebay kit? I didn't think I'd actually find someone who had actually used one! So it seemed like a good kit? Seems like the price is right in the "about right" ballpark.

    Well I'm phukd. Th400 lost 3rd

Then there is this kit. Good price, and appears to use name-brand parts (Kolene, Alto Red-Eagle) and it also includes a new reverse band, torrington bearings, thrust washers etc. I know its fleabay, but it looks decent...

Hmm. Not bad, it just doesn't come with bands. For the same price range I was actually thinking about the Summit kit. It comes with some pretty good parts: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-705021

    Well I'm phukd. Th400 lost 3rd

Unfortunately that kit is for a TH350. The TCI Th400 kits are much more expensive. Since money is a big problem here (see my other thread about "fixing" the parking pawl in my Camaro) I need to find something... less expensive. What's so wrong about the B&M stuff? The Transkit seems to be...

I'm in Florida, and yes it's a bolt-on yoke. I've been doing a bit of research on kits etc, and this is what I'm looking at: B&M 20229 Rebuild kit (includes parts/steps for shift improvement so no shift kit needed) - $152.00 Fliter kit - $10.00 Flex Plate (mine was ground down by a junk...

Yeah I dunno what I'm going to do. I'm exploring options. --Rebuild TH400 myself - probably around $500+/- plus some tool rentals - never done it before so could be big waste --Purchase rebuilt TH400 - $1000+ --Go manual - unknown cost, though likely lots when including clutch pedal assembly...

I've been having intermittent slipping in third for a while. It was usually a sign I was a little low on fluid (damn thing leaks from places you don't even want to know about). Well I think it finally went over the hill. Saturday it started slipping bad when I tried to get up to highway speed...

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

I wouldn't trust it either, it doesn't appear to have provisions for a trans cooler. Must be a light-duty model. That's no good in a truck. Come to think I don't see a dip stick either. Not good. He must have done something to it. I don't like it.
