LED rope lights under the hood; problems?

OR i could have used 3 seconds to Google "under hood led lights" and found, literally, a plethora of options.... sooooooooo, nevermind.

LED rope lights under the hood; problems?

So I'm sitting here daydreaming about scraping grime and dirt off of parts and pieces. In my mind, I'm on a creeper under the engine spraying cleaner on things but it's dark. So I use a shop light but it's hot and I worry about setting a fire while under the truck. Now I'm poking around in the...

    Dakota Digital or New Vintage

I ordered New Vintage for my truck. All in all, the install was very simple and straight forward. I had a bum tach but they replaced it quickly. Once everything got connected and 2 settings were set, everything works perfect. For my '51 I have it in the budget for some New Vintage gauges. I...

What have you done to your square lately??

This weekend I revisited some projects. After installing relays for the power windows, while going down the highway one went up halfway, then down then stopped all together. The other one just went down all the way before the fuse blew. So I took the doors apart again, put on new connectors and...

    Favorite tool brand?

I like Kobalt. They bounce real good into the alley when I throw them out of 'rusted bolt frustration' syndrome.

    Bar magnet in engine bay

I'd like to think i had the most original idea ever in the history of motoring. Probably not, but it's fun to think that I came up with an original solution to a problem I've had when working under the hood. Mounting a bar magnet under the hood gives me a way to keep tools close at hand without...

    truck cranks, no spark

Is the plug not sparking or is there no electricity getting to the plugs? - seems basic, but check the advance, then check to make sure wires are going to the right cylinders - check the red wire feeding the module, sometimes it'll come out of the plastic connector and not make good contact...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

so, in an effort to share information I'm dragging this back up to the sunlight. after changing out all of the vac lines, adjusting the timing and the valves, changing out gas and lots of glaring at the radiator I finally, accidentally, found the problem. i decided that the carb wasn't seated...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

well, I was all excited about having gotten to the root of the problem. Went out last night and searched all over the transmission for the connector so I could rig up a switch but there are no wires or places for wires on the whole thing. I did the next best thing: I sprayed starter fluid on...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

I haven't followed up on the 350 vs 350C issue. I always thought it was a regular 350 but it could be a 350C. there were a lot of parts laying around in the shop when they built the truck. I'll look tonight when I get home from work. Mah piggies: edit: talked with my girlfiend, she built...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

actually i lied. the solution worked only until the truck got a few miles down the road. then it ran for sh@#*(%*#! and died at every chance it got. found that some fuel was leaking out the side of the carb not near a gasket so I bought a brand new, right out of the box 1406 to replace it with...

What have you done to your square lately??

Tonight I'm swapping out the old Carter AFB for a 1406 that doesn't leak. Also putting in a fuel regulator to knock down the fuel pressure to 5 or 6 psi. Last week I finished up installing a camera for reversing into/near a trailer hitch. Put it on a switch so I can have it on whenever I want...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

Solved: After doing all that work I ended up adjusting the floats so they are 3/16" of an inch from the "ceiling" of the float bowls. Then I noticed what started all of this to begin with: moisture on the side of the carb that I thought was fuel. After looking, poking and prodding I decided...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

I've pulled vac on every connection I can think of and everything is holding. I've got worm clamps on all the metal/rubber connections, replaced the 3/8" fuel line with vac line for the brake booster, played with the timing again, put the 8 inches of Merc springs in and I can still get the truck...

Well, I did rivet part of a beer can to the tailgate.

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

I can get it to stall out in the driveway as well as out on the street at pretty much any speed. I didn't get a chance to test the brake booster this weekend - had to take some animals away from a *&$$^!@! who was starving them. The plan tonight is to noodle out if the brake booster is going...

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

I'll try that tonight after work. In the process of trying to figure out the problem I replaced the rubber bits going to the transmission and clamped them. Thanks!

84 C20 stalling when braking hard in drive; not reverse

ive got an 84 C20 with a 350/350. the engine has a Carter AFB that's been rebuilt recently and put back to factory needles/jets. The floats are at factory specs. Initial advance is 10 degrees and overall is about 16. I have replaced all of the vacuum lines and check valves on the engine (i did...

    gas gauge dual tank

What have you done to your square lately??

Since getting my 1984 C20 I've replaced the partially triangular tires with round ones, the carrier bearing, both gas tanks, added dog dishes, put in an Eddie Bauer interior, I had the windshield replaced, new gauge package from LMC (New Vintage instruments), put in a box of course, carpet and...

Speedo is off but the formula says it should be spot on. I'm at a loss

Fixed. I fixed it by pulling the speedo I got from Classic Industries and replacing it with one from LMC. the guy from classic says they've never had one that was defective. I believe that to be a load of crap but that's my opinion. they said send it back to them, they'll test it and...

Speedo is off but the formula says it should be spot on. I'm at a loss

I've used that TCI page; like it quite a bit! Update: I changed out the speedo cable and put in an 18 tooth driven gear. Apparently I've got a bind in the cable somewhere because the needle is bobbing a bit. With the lower tooth gear the speedo is still a bit off; the numbers tell me a 17 tooth...

Speedo is off but the formula says it should be spot on. I'm at a loss

Thanks for the input. Here's some more info I found out: I talked to the Classic Auto Parts people and they report they've never heard of such a thing and I should talk to a transmission shop. The transmission shops tell me there's only one set (numerically) of gears that get put into a TH350...

Speedo is off but the formula says it should be spot on. I'm at a loss

That is the thread I read to get the calculator to figure out what gears to buy. When I put them in the original speedo read about 5 mph slow. So, in my infinite wisdom, I elected to try cleaning out the unit. All I accomplished was breaking the needle off. That's what prompted the new speedo...

Speedo is off but the formula says it should be spot on. I'm at a loss

Called a few transmission shops and they said that all the internals of TH350's are all the same (in terms of gearing, not quality) so that isn't the problem. on the plus side, I can honestly say 'But officer, I was only doing 50.'
