The other day, working on the truck in the driveway, I worked up a bit of a glow. I wondered how warm it was so I grabbed the temp gun thing. And that was after the driveway was in the shade for 4 hours. -

High volume oil pump and cam slap
I have replaced the old, dead oil pump with a Melling high volume oil pump. Yes, I now know that the 350 sbc doesn't really like/need a high volume oil pump. I have also replaced the old cam and double checked the install 4 times now but I'm still hearing the cam moving forwards and backwards...- 84 C20

got the TH350 unbolted and learned that transmission fluid comes out the front, the back and the dipstick side. put on the new flex plate with new bolts, jammed in the new output housing seal, cleaned up what I could and got the trans bolted to the engine. bolted up the first of three tc bolts... -

getting ready to change out the flex plate. evidently having the torque converter loose and banging around breaks things; even for a short time. but it's all good, wanted to see what the top of the transmission looked like anyway. maybe paint some zebra stripes on it. -

I took out the old cam. You might notice a little issue I had. Fixed it with a little help from a grinder. and got to really look at the damage I did. -

Got the new cam and lifters in yesterday, the radiator will show up Monday. I've been pulling things off of the engine and painting them as fast as I can. I've got header wrap sitting on a shelf waiting for me to tackle that project. Soon I'll have a very Chevy Orange engine... For a "free"... -

What new tools have you got lately?
Today I got a degree wheel for the new cam and a set of tools to pull/refit the harmonic balancer. Oh, and a socket to turn the crank as well as a oil pump primer. One of these days I'll get finished with pulling parts off of the engine and start putting things back together. Hopefully! -
What is your daily if not square body?
right now my daily is a 2013 sonata. when I get around to getting the bike inspected and re-registered, i'll be riding a 2012 Iron 883 in town. when i get the '51 5 window up and running I'll be able to get rid of the car but that is looking like 2 years off (perpetually)... my girl has a '94...- 84 C20

Decided to throw in a new oil pump because oil pressure would drop to 5 psi for a few seconds at freeway speeds. Then jump back up to 40 psi. When the old pump was out I spun the shaft. It didn't spin freely; in fact, it was kind of indexed. The new pump is great. I'm getting 80 psi when cold... -
